Seiko SRPB43 Presage Cocktail Time

I've been eyeballing this watch for a long time and finally pulled the trigger at my local Seiko dealer last week. Absolutely in love with it. I too, originally thought at 40.5mm that it was too big for a dress watch, hence why it too me so long to buy. I much prefer smaller traditional sized watches...even in my tool watches. I wear a 36.5mm Oris Aquis. However, the more I wear it, the more you realize that this was never designed and intended to be a dress watch. And when I say "dress watch" I mean worn in semi-formal/black tie/dinner jacket. Obviously, the size is the first signal, but it also has millisecond indices, and a date function. While you could totally wear it with a tuxedo (and it really would look awesome, honestly)...it is not a dress watch. And do not buy one if you're in the market for a dress watch. That said, the fact it is not a dress watch makes it 100x more versatile and fun. You can wear this with every suit in the wardrobe. You can wear this on a perlon or even solid nato and wear it on the weekends. It is that freaking good. This might be the greatest Mid-Century Modern design accessory to come along since the actual Mid-Century. I would say it could be the Rolex Submariner of a date watch. No - what the Rolex Sea Dweller is to saturation diving, this is what you bring when you're meeting that special woman for the first time. Your charming lovely architect date notices this on your wrist when you're drinking a Sazerac...and then in her green eyes, you're mysteriously interesting a way none of the other men who are texting her even approached. Get yourself one fellas.

I bought this version two days ago, and already wore it on a dinner date. I'm keeping it. There are features I like better on the SARB065, but it was 13mm and too thick for my dress shirt cuffs. I thought the crown was too large, but it doesn't poke my hand/wrist and my girlfriend liked the crown.

I couldn’t decide which color dial I liked the best so I bought two cocktail time watches. I have the one you are reviewing here and I have the one with the blue dial. Each cocktail time watch is inspired by an actual cocktail, hence the color of the dial is representative of the color of that cocktail. The way the dial reflects light is inspired by a glint of light off of a cocktail glass. The hands and markers are made to look like the stem of a cocktail glass. Hence the name cocktail time. The watch you are reviewing does not have a silver dial. It is inspired by the skydiving cocktail and the dial is ice blue. It has a very slight bluish tint. The blue dial watch is inspired by the blue moon cocktail. The champagne gold dial is inspired by the Margarita. The brown dial is the Manhattan. The dark gray dial is the espresso martini. The gimlet has a light gold dial. The green dial is inspired by the mockingbird cocktail. These watches are all identical except for the color of the dial and the bands, and some of them are available with a power reserve indicator and the date at the 6 o’clock position instead of the 3 o’clock position.

Found this gem preloved and in mint condition for 90 bucks... I can't believe it myself either. N man, do I love that crown... Nicely knurled n not too big, like an onion crown, more like a little cupcake n that S on the side... Plus that dial... This is gonna be my default dress watch man... :)

I have the old one , the SARB 065 , I prefer the old one with a best movemente , the 6R15 is more accurate and with a longer power reserv , the automatic italic writing is more nice in the old one , yes the watch is big but for my wrist is ok , the only negative is the thikness , only 1 mm less in the new version is not a diference , i prefer the best movement on the old version with only 1 mm more of thikness.

The main complaint about the strap is not that it is too glossy but that it looks unbelievably like plastic cheap. I really like this watch but this strap is just 🤮 if I will own this watch sometimes I am definitely buying some nice dark blue ostrich or alligator strap.

Every site I have been on regarding this watch they complain about the shining Patent strap, Seiko knew exactly watch they were doing the strap goes with the watch and if you have numerous watches , having one with a shiny patent strap would be good and different for your selection of watches. I love this watch with the shiny patent strap.

Have this watch for ten days now , after 7 days it gain 31 seconds.But whats really interesting is that i checked the power reserve and the watch worked for 45.5 hours siting in the box! I was really surprised i thought the power reserve is only 40-41 hours.

Presage prices are going up (more in UK than US/Asia). Hear talk of sapphire glass (not found any yet) and 5 nice machined 'Cocktail' dials (all spectacular): Plain textured, starburst (SARB065, SRPB41 or 43 or SRP841 or 852), Guilloche (SRPB45), Basket weave (SRPC99 or SPB225) and 'hemp' triangle pattern (SPB205J1)

Man, I was chasing my first automatic watch and was between the Hamilton that appears in the movie "Interstellar" (Pilot Day Date) and this Cocktail time. I liked the first one for the meaning but this Seiko is gorgeous on how it looks and even cheaper than the Hamilton so I think that the movie icon must wait for a while.

I have the SRPB41 (blue face on bracelet), and really like it. As far as the movement, mine is very accurate- much better than Seiko claims. I will get a couple different straps to go on it . Anyone worried about size should consider the bracelet...it makes it look smaller, imo. As for the size, I was slightly concerned about it being on the larger end of dress watches. But I have a 7” wrist (6 7/8 in the winter), and it looks very proportional. I wear 40-43mm sort watches everyday, so for me, the size wasn’t an issue at all. I think that the thickness helps it look not so big, and it sits into the wrist perfectly.

Am I correct in thinking the cupcake crown, although maybe not as elegantly understated as the cocktail predecessor, gives a more vintage look in keeping with the rest of the watch? Also, I think the high gloss black strap would go absolutely perfect with a black parade gloss shoe finish.

That may be what they were going for with the crown. I hadn't considered that. The strap, it's honestly not that bad, but I know that a lot of people aren't a fan of it. I think it could work, like you say, in the right situations.

I believe the 6r15 has an unbreakable mainspring too! Personally I couldn't bring myself to buy a downgraded watch for close to the same price.

Yeah, the 6r movement uses the Spron mainspring, I think is what the material is called. This 4r movement is a downgrade for sure, and a bit of a disappointment. But I think for most people, it would go unnoticed.

JustBlueFish Watch Reviews The 4r35 and 36 are good movements, but anyone that knows they downgraded the watch from a 6r15 would be insane to pay close to the same price for a an inferior movement. I couldn't do it knowing it use to have a better movement, and then downgraded to maximize profit. If they at least charged a lot less then it would be acceptable. Still good job on your video.

So I saw this watch at a local family owned seiko store and having had the sarb065 in my sights for quite some time, I bought this for 285...a great price for sure. It was only when I got home and realized that I got the srbp presage version. Initially I was a bit disappointed but I have found this watch to be about 2 seconds fast a day...which is very good in my book. I also like that the rotor is gold on this on the exhibition case back. Seiko seems to think that all American culture is more flamboyant...which I guess it kind of true. Lol. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

Bought one in Japan last week. Looks great but it just stopped working. Now it is in the service centre to be repaired under warranty. Well this should NOT have happened. It completely shakes my trust in the brand. Was going to buy a grand seiko next.

Sorry to hear about your problem with the Seiko, but given my experience with dozens of Seiko watches I wouldn't consider this normal. You just got unlucky. Everything mass produced has a chance of having a lemon get past the QC from time to time, be it a watch or a car or an electronic device.

I also have the original SARB065 and would always go for that one because it is the first cocktail time ever. Future value, better movement, out of production now (still in production when this video was made) and in my opinion the better suited crown. Apart from that, everybody seems to forget the marker differences between these two watches here... About the size, these day's you can't wear a watch under 38mm I guess, maybe again in the future :-)

The wrist sizing should not be based on the watch case size but the dial opening or diameter. A bigger dial diameter looks bigger while a watch of the same case size with a thicker bezel will have a smaller dial and look optically smaller as perceived by the brain. And if the lugs are longer it will add up to look even more bigger. I agree a 40.5 mm size with a thinner bezel will optically look bigger on the wrist. That's a good question, and I don't know, but my guess is no. I haven't heard of any significant issues with the 6r15 and it's still found in plenty of Seiko's watches. I suspect it was just a cost savings measure and also to make the case slimmer. But I don't know the answer to that for certain.
