Seiko Tuna SBBN045 Review

Got the SBBN045 from Gnomon Watches, quality is perfect, I'm very happy with it! It wears great on the Strapcode Hexad bracelet.

The rattling sound is the inner chapter ring. It is supported by the crystal, not attached to the dial. While it is positionally aligned, it has some vertical play, hence the rattling sound. It is not unusual.

I do not understand why Seiko does not use a perpetual calendar. I do not set the date each month so it's never right. Seiko was doing this 10 years ago in some quartz watches.

My SBBN031 has perfect build quality. Everything lines up, the seconds hand hits all the markers, the bezel is tight and there are no rattles! Same goes for my PADI Sumo. My King Turtle however...

My only complaint with this SBBN045 is the way too light bezel action. Otherwise it’s great!

Thanks mate! Yes, I've tried it on my straight-endlink Strapcode super jubilee. It looks great, but it looks a bit too thin on this watch, at least for me. The Tuna likes thick, beefy bracelets imo. Like the Angus Jubilee or the Hexad.

Great watch, I have sbb049 ,it's the same watch,only with metal bracelet and metal shroud. You can change it to sbb045.

When you said shroud, you mean the bezel? It can fit from 045 to 049?

On the fence to purchase a mint Sbbn043 for around $650 usd, also from Gnomon watches, but the second hand does not tick the marker, if I buy I will need to bring into local seiko boutique to get it re-aligned

Seiko Quality Control is HORRIBLE. It has only gotten worse over the years as the price has gone up. I've owned Turtle, Monster, Tuna, Spring Drive tuna... all of them had alignment issues, crown issues, and/or bracelet/strap issues (i.e. keepers not keeping the strap).

Other than the rattling noise, this Tuna seems to be perfect, no misalignments. But all my other Seikos have noticable misalignments, while NONE of my 7 Citizens have (one Tough, one BN0151 and five NY00xx). Citizen has just as good movements and just as excellent lume, they beat the s*** out of Seiko, while being really affordable.

I bought one used for $1000 on a watch forum. Luckily no problems. I need to get a nice bracelet for it. Just a shame that generally Seiko quality isn't very good. It's not normal any watch rattles inside.

I can recommend the Strapcode Hexad bracelet, with the bigger (6 whole) clasp. Works the best for me on this watch!

For me the bezel is too easy to turn, that's the only flaw of this watch.

On mine too. It's the only real thing I don't like about this watch. I have to use some very little force to turn it, but it's way too easy to turn compared to everything else in my collection.
