That comes from film-making .. in order to get "the shot" , actors almost always have to stand or sit extremely close together .. usually touching shoulders .. if you're too far apart , it just doesn't "look right" .. on watchbacks , it makes the scene look "weird" .. out of balance .. from the actor's perspective it always feels "invasive" , or , you know , like: "back up buddy" .. but you have to do it .. the director will be shouting : "move closer together" , "get tighter" ..
