"that's not gonna run again is it" That's funny Mart!

I just finished knocking out pistons like this on a 59A....here in the USA.. Thanks so much for the tip. Most had to be broken out. Love your videos.

Gary, I hope it went well. On another motor (there is a video) I managed to crack a cylinder. Getting the crown off the piston is the key. I might use a different method if there is a next time. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for this series of videos. I have the chance of dragging the remains of a Ford Pilot out of a field but have been put off by people telling me the flathead is probably beyond saving. It’s just a frame with engine gearbox and axles but You’ve inspired me to give it a go and see what can be saved.

There's always something that can be saved, Ess. Pilot axles are useful, and the gears can be used in toploader boxes.

Completely enjoying this series. Done a few small block Chevies but always wanted to build a flathead. This one looks like quite the challenge with its level of corrosion, grit, and decay. Requires figuring out how to disassemble without it turning into "demo" !!! Kind of the "root" of the "fun" of reclaiming this old iron. Looking ahead, I see this one also involves the dreaded broken head studs. Anxious to see how you approach that task making sure you drill down the center of the stud. That's assuming, of course, you don't weld a nut to the broken piece. ;o) 👍👍👍

Bob, I did some videos on head stud removal. I became quite infatuated with the subject. Rverybody has a different approach to the subject. Some will try and preserve as many as possible (me). Some will sacrifice all at the start and cut them all down and weld nuts on. I suppose it all boils down to how quickly, cheaply and easily replacement parts are available, how expensive is your time, and if someone else is paying. there is an interesting thread running on FordBarn on this very subject. Mart.

My problem is that I have not given up hope of saving the pistons in this Merc engine. I'm probably wrong.

your getting there mart . interesting vid i enjoyed it and i know your going to get that Flathead running .

Nice job Mart. This block is convincingly knackered, but if you can get the lifters out, maybe there’s hope. Do they still allow the old boil-out tanks in UK machine shops? It might look much better after a good acid bath.

I have a question why did you put sleeves in your engine ?
@MartsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Lem. There's a whole video series on it. I'm working on another one at the moment and that has also required sleeves and a rebore. Thanks for dropping by.
