Turkish Shekerpare (Şekerpare) Desert is one of the well know traditional syrup deserts made with semolina and butter based cookie like dough and soaked in syrup. It is easy to make and will complete Turkish menu. Also grate with Turkish cup of the
Ingredients for Shekerpare:
125gr. butter at room temperature
1 cup of powdered sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs (keep one yolk for brushing)
1 cup fine semoilna
1/2 cup roasted ground hazelnut
2+1/2 cups all purpose flour (plus more if needed)
2 tsp baking powder
1 pack vanilla powder
For the syrup
3 cups granulated sugar
3+1/2 cups water
1 tbsp lemon juice

I’m from India and we make shakkar pare as well but a simpler version, out of whole wheat flour, which is rolled out, cut & fried, dipped in sugar syrup. Never knew the same name existed in Turkish as well! 👍🏼

Yes. Indian shakarpaara are deep fried. But yummy. Turkish style is also interesting.

Actually i think that shakr pare originated in Turkey and came to india by the mughals

some shops also sell round shakkar pare in India but yes home made versions are usually square or rhombus shaped

MashaAllah we also make it and call these shakar paray too in Pakistan the difference is we deepfry them

In India we also called Shakkar Paarey.... so nice to see other culture has similar name too.😍😍.. Ours like a hard and dry type... I love turkish food too👌🏼👌🏼

Shakarparey is a fried pastry in north India as well. Flour dough is enriched with ghee and cut into diamonds and are fried.then coated with sugar syrup. Some people also make tge dough sweet instead of coating with sugar syrup

Aw, urmašice! (That's how we call them all over former Yugoslavia.) Only, we roll them on the grater to leave the imprint. Veganized version (developed for Orthodox Christian fasting) also contains dry coconut.

Look delicious, we have a sweet here in south india, which we call shakkerpade, even that is made from flour and semolina, but the method is completely different.

For bakes, if you can break it and let us see the inside structure or let us know the texture that would be great. Also helps with trying out your recipe since every country processes flour and other ingredients differently

Can anyone tell me - is a Turkish "pack of vanilla powder" the same as US "vanilla extract?" I assume yes but if it's not just a flavoring I"d like to get the right thing. Thank you!

Once I gave my Turkush friend some gulab jamuns. He was so happy and asked me where did I get the kamal prashar from. I said what this is an Indian dessert not Turkish. We argued in the end he said its Indian.
