Man I cannot thank you enough for this It took me a while to actually get the right run the first time with the first phase cuz my right trigger has input problems and functions on its own sometimes but when I did get it right I seized that opportunity and dealt with it Then came the second phase I legit just kept up the pause menu for at least 5 mins contemplating how I would tackle the headless beast Then I just went “screw it” and did the spear technique until I ran out emblems and tantos Then the bright idea of using the mortal blade shone upon me and so I dealt with this vile and filthy beast as such Until I finally maxxed out it’s posture bar Usually I follow fightincowboys git gud guides but I just couldn’t find any good info for the guardian ape from this wonderful man Then I found you and my god you were a godsend

Note: I completely forgot to mention his fart attack. If you do the fast method you'll never encounter it so it doesn't matter. If you do the easy oil/fire method you should also prevent him from doing it because you'll burn him each time he sits down and pauses (which he usually does before farting). Otherwise, the general rule is don't linger near his butt and if he does get a fart off, run for life. It'll only hurt you if you're close but if the gas just catches you a little while you're retreating all it will do is put a little poison on you which will wear off quickly if you don't step into more fart gas!

Excellent, excellent guide! I "practiced" before facing this boss by pretending to be the one parrying during your gameplay footage to train my reactions to his phase 2 swipes. I went into the real encounter while wanting to learn phase 1 without Flame Vent. I ended up getting to phase 2 on the first try and ended up winning that attempt with the spear and an occasional umbrella use (I mostly ran away from the scream.) I didn't deflect too well, but I blocked most of the damage and deflected well enough to make him topple for the spear punish. I ate one sugar when it looked like I could pull it off and it worked! I was so nervous before the fight but it all came together like magic, thanks!

Damn I finally got him! I was so nervous about his crazy horse shit in phase 2 that I just tensed up and would get caught on his perilous sweep attack. He's actually kinda easy once you get his timing down on deflects I was surprised how easy once I got all that down. Hell one thing I got pissed about is I kept deflecting his dive attack I kept saying shit not again!!! Thanks for the video you're awesome man and I did subscribe. Thanks! I can tell you the reason. A lot of people beat bosses by eeking their way through and then post that as the "how to" guide. But what I do is I try to work out the easiest and most consistent way to no damage a boss that I think most people could apply, and then I test it multiple times to make sure that it works compared to other ways of no damaging. Then I take that method and break it down into a guide. I feel making guides this way is the best way to help someone beat the boss because if it can be consistently no damaged with just a little bit of know-how, then it can be more easily beaten with damage.

Great guide. Thanks, Fuzzy! I feel like this is one of the earliest boss battles which truly tests all you have learned about Sekiro. Those deflects have to be so on-point in phase 2! My advise on spirit emblems conservation: if you must use a prosthetic tool in phase 1, try using the firecrackers instead (doesn't matter which) if you find yourself running out of emblems in phase 2. The Tanto really helps too.

I nuked the 1st fase with confetti, sugar, fire & crackers, used up all my spirit emblems and 2nd fase just by deflecting that heavy attack (when he raises his arm high) and staggering him. Can't miss it. The terror scream also has a very distinct animation thankfully.

Very useful guide. Thanks again. In phase 1 I used the oil and flame vent technique. Took a while but it was the safest strategy for me. I recommend the flame vent over firecrackers as you dont have to worry so must about timing. In phase two I struggled to get the deflection timing right. I didn't use the umbrella, just ran away when he did the terror attack. I did use the spear though.

The problem with the Ape is his unblockable grab is super fast and you MUST jump as soon as you see the red icon but his jump attack will get you if you do. So it ends up a game of luck avoiding his attacks.

You had some awesome tips in this video like all your videos actually. You actually made this boss quite trivial with how much you can overpower him with all the items and tools at your disposal. Damn I didnt realize how easy it was to pounce him like that. I ended up just using oils and flame vent a couple times in phase 1 and the umbrella in phase 2 so I could block his terror roar while staying close to him and get a weapon art off immediately after his roar along with good deflects. It went very well actually but it could've gone alot easier if I saw or thought of some of these tips beforehand. Got him on my 3rd try and I think it's my favorite boss fight so far in Sekiro followed by Genichiro, Butterfly, Corrupted Monk and Shichimen Warrior. I think Guardian Ape actually makes my Top 10 From Soft Boss List. I really can't wait to fight him again in NG+. Wish Sekiro had that Death's Gambit mechanic where you can fight any boss you want again by activating it. I know it can be done on pc with save files etc but man I wish it could on ps4 or console in general. Excellent Boss! 10/10 guide! I will definitely use these tips next time. I dont know how im gonna fight 2 of these apes because 1 was a decent handful but im sure excited to find out!

@@fuzzybearbarian This boss' second phase is giving me fits. My deflections are very inaccurate, can't seem to get the timing right. First phase is a breeze, second phase I get my ass kicked trying to deflect his attacks. I can rarely get him to lay down after deflecting that massive overhead strike he does. I'm running from his terror scream, which is working well. My biggest problem is finding a window to hit him without getting my skull bashed in.

I had some comments saying the strats showns in this vid had been patched with patch 1.04. Specifically that deflecting won't stagger the ape in phase 2 and that the umbrella won't defend against his terror attack. yeah, they probably couldn't parry the main attack in p2, I had that more often that I'd like too :) Also I feel like it indeed sometimes didn't stagger ape for the spear move when I parried, but I think it's just my brain wanting to hear the "ding" sound VS reality where I suck at parrying :D if anything - I'm confident that 95% of perfect parrying ended up with ape staggered, ready for the spear ripe :) And umbrella works 100%, otherwise would be a shame. TBH at some point(when my souls were almost at the end) I wondered if pacifying agent would be a good choice there so you won't spend souls having terror being countered with the agent and instead would light it up with a flame or smth.... and I would try it....but then I was so close to kill it so didn't want to end up in terror so close to finish and pulled up tanto+pellet move :D

Great video, one thing i found out by accidentally using spear instead of umbrella: you should be able to interrupt the terror skill with spear and just get more easy posture dmg in. So maybe no need for umbrella

Hard question to answer because in Sekiro you can go in multiple directions and fight different bosses in different orders. I can't know which path you took. Also, game has different endings. One is pretty quick and a couple take a lot longer. If you have beaten quite a few bosses already, it's possible you're very close to the quickest ending though.

No probs. You'll probably end up doing all the endings if you want to 100% the game, so whichever ending you pick won't matter. Otherwise, the quickest way to end the game - but also the least fulfilling ending - is the Shura Ending. All other endings end with the same awesome boss fight - and the second fastest of those to get to is the Immortal Severence. Have fun!

Fuzzy Bearbarian. I don’t know, this particular boss feels like the first real Road block I have encountered. I can see that he’s beatable but aside from the final boss he’s probably considered the hardest boss in the game and their reputation is well-deserved. I’m actually taking the game very-verrrry slowly. I haven’t killed any headless yet so I may take a break from this boss and go clean up a lot of the mini bosses I haven’t done. But regardless of when you get to that boss, your videos are awesome and I’ll keep watching them.

@@Mandalore646 I actually find him a bit difficult too. Something about his fast blurry movements are a bit hard for my eyes to track or something, I dunno. I kept saying out loud when I was fighting him that I found him hard to track. But it's a good idea to go clean up mini-bosses you've skipped. Any extra improvements to your character you can get will help for sure. Plus, depending on your choices you could be near the end of the game, so may as well do the final fights having beaten everything before them instead of having to go back and clean up. From what I've heard going back and cleaning up isn't really much fun if you're leveled up too much from completing the game.

Fuzzy Bearbarian I yeah, I’m probably going to go try to clean up a few things. The boss I’m currently stuck on is actually from the look of it the one right before the end. It’s optional and there is a way to cheese it without actually having to fight it but I just don’t want to go that route. I actually have the strategy down it’s just this boss has three deathblows to kill it and the fight requires you to be pretty much perfect. But I have gotten too it’s third phase and very nearly killed it so I am making progress. But I guess I’ll take a break and go out for some of those headless, for some reason they seem a little intimidating but I’m sure it gets a little better once you get used to them.

@@Mandalore646 Half the time I find if I take a break I come back and suddenly wipe the floor with enemies I might have taken a hit on earlier. I don't know, I think the brain just settles down with a bit of a rest, or maybe the body gets a rest and so my fingers work better on the controller ... or something. Ok, that was definitely MUCH harder than Genchiro :) HUGE thanks for explaining how to dodge those perilous attacks, I would never have guessed to jump away from grab attack in the phase 1 and his jump\leap attack in the phase 2. I spend my first 10 tries trying to figure out how the hell I'm supposed to dodge it and couldn't....all the game has taught me almost to an instinct - you dodge out of the grab attack :( Also the tip with the spear in the phase 2 was immensely helpful.... Obviously I couldn't done it as smooth as you've done, but I still managed to use it 4 or 5 times.... my parrying is no match for yours, but I still was able to nail it without dying even once(let's not bring those 20+ tries I did, OK?) :) I did spend all 7 gourds and 2 pellets, I had to use the tanto knife in the end of phase 2 as I was running out of 15 souls I deliberately left out for phase 2(only 2 flame vents in the phase one otherwise I don't have enough souls for umbrellas), but hey, that was some victory :) Thanks for the incredible video with plentiful of options and thorough explanation that would allow one to find their own way through it.....without knowledge of how to dodge those 2 - I'd probably be raging like crazy....so I understand those who finds this "mini"-boss worthy of quitting the game - they just didn't see your guide in time :) P.S. I wouldn't have thought that terror could be blocked by an umbrella BTW as I would expect at least lilac umbrella to do the trick.....but you wouldn't get it until you kill the ape lol... so yeah, that a dodgy part on how the hell you're blocking terror without lilac....

That's awesome and hey, 20+ tries to beat him is nothing. I've been told some people have tried for days and given up completely after hundreds of tries. I was also surprised that the umbrella worked when I first tried it. I pretty much try everything I can think of when putting together a boss fight and in that one I expected it to fail. I think I agree it was harder than Genichiro, though for me I still think of Headless as the hardest fight because of the pressure not to run out of divine confetti.

Hey Fuzzy, once again a great guide that definitely helped me to kill the boss! And by the way: today I installed patch 1.04 (on Xbox) and the strategy with the spear to pull the centipede out still works! I used Spiral Spear, but I think it doesn’t matter which one you use. In the comments I‘ve read much about they have patched this, but the only thing which was different from your 1st phase clip is his moveset, and in 2nd phase the umbrella doesn’t avoid the terror damage anymore, which made me just run away. What a fight that was!!

Well, watching your new clip made me think that I MUST did something wrong! Fortunately I copied my local save file before the fight, so I fought him again focusing on deflecting his scream with the umbrella. Can‘t really explain it, but today it worked like in your videos! I think I opened the umbrella too late and/or closed it too early. My bad, sorry for any caused inconvenience!

That spear attack wins the award on this one. I had no idea about that and it cut the battle down to one fourth the time I took. Question on the tanto though. It's one of those consumables that I got once but no refills so I never use it, or does it work like a gourd and refill?

@@miceandgods4171 Fighting a boss? Going to die for the first time? Bite down on it and you'll die instantly. You'll then be able to resurrect without having lost one of your resurrections. In other words, it gives you an extra res. Just don't use it after you've already died. Only use it before you've died and it becomes a free extra life per boss fight.

60k views? Others have views in the millions. Damn shame because this is actually by far the best strategy for this fight. Especially ending the first phase before it begins. Seriously, rather than learning the necessary distance and jump or dodge times for the shit throw attack, you just do this. Didn't work and he started smacking you around before the 1st phase ended? Just let him kill you real quick and try again as opposed to wasting what could amount to hours upon hours of your time learning that phase only to have to learn just as much in the second phase. Seriously frustrating when you spend that much time learning the first phase just to be graced with the opportunity to start learning the second😤😤 Fuck that. This should be the pinnacle recommendation for any combo of the words "guardian ape boss fight sekiro". Where all other videos failed, this one came through.

Phase 2 is actually easier once you get a handle on the terror scream and deflects, so you got this no probs!

That does get a bit fiddly. If you want you can ignore the spear and use a double ichimonji in its place. That way you only have to think about the umbrella. The damage will be slightly less to its posture and the fight will go slightly longer, but that's okay - it's better than fumbling multiple prosthetics and dying :)

@@fuzzybearbarian Mortal blade for the win. 1st phase fire cracker. Then rinse and repeat: mortal blade, wait, mortal blade when he gets up. Hit the head is a stunlock. If you miss the head: 2 firecrackers. Takes all but 2 emblems :-X 2nd phase: the counters are not too bad. Just had do retreat quick enough to avoid terror. Did a pause+terror gourd twice (so 2 narrow escapes). Had to quick due to adrenaline making me shake :=D :=D

it took me about 2 days of practice to finally beat him in the first phase but i managed to get through the second phase on my first try without taking damage my hands were totally shaking when i was deflecting the last sword attacks

this so far is the hardest boss i have fought so far in the game as when i was fighting him he was on my ass almost the whole fight so i couldn't avoid some of his attacks and the kanji for his peralous attacks only flashed for a split second before hitting me with almost no animation

Yeah, he's tough at first. But the more you try him the more you'll be able to read those timings and, once you do, he's surprisingly not as hard as he first appears to be. Good luck!

finally I'm here after 2days taking a break from sekiro, that genichiro in the castle took toll on me edit: damn, i find this more easier than genichiro haha, third try. i didn't use the umbrella. just focused on getting away and using fearlessness powder if he manage to corner me. the tricky part was running out emblems, had to ichimonji that centipede out of him haha

@@edmonngo8439 Good question man. I've been wondering the same thing. At this stage A Plague Tale is number 1 on my list. I was thinking Rage 2, but after Bethesda's recent crap and the broken mess of Just Case 4 I'm really, really sceptical of jumping into that one as I have a sneaking feeling it will be a buggy broken mess. I'm pretty happy with Focus releases though, had a lot of fun with The Surge and Vampyr, so A Plague Tale is probably my next game. All depends on how I feel closer to release date I guess. For now I'm just playing through Sekiro's NG+ and I'll maybe make a video on a quest or two as I go, but yeah. Like you I also have a backlog. Still have The Evil Within 2 which I haven't had time for and it's meant to be great. Trying to find time for that could be on my agenda too.

Your videos are awesome dude but I could not do this the quick way. The route I have gone there’s no way for me to get the sugars aside from buying them, which I did. I could only get three and died each time. When I use them my health shrink pretty low. Amazingly explained as usual though fella, great video.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case for most people tbh, which is why I included the full fight without them. I actually never use items in my normal play (I just pretty much swipe and deflect until the job gets done) which is why I always have a stockpile of items for these guides ;)

farm the sugars at send main hall run out immediately left backstab your way down the path..easy if you got puppeteer you can easy tretrack and kill the 3 whirly guys, or normal backstab fantastic sugar route

Thanks! Training and learning to fight is a tough one because Hanbei really isn't that helpful - he's not hard enough! I recommend save scumming before the fight you want to practice on: PS4: Note: Disable auto-uploads for Sekiro if you use PS+Cloud. - Quit game at point you want to save. - Go to PS4 Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Copy to USB. To reload your save, do the same but copy from USB to system. PC: Save file is at C:/Users/Your user name/AppData/Roaming/Sekiro - Quit Sekiro to main menu - copy save file to a backup file - to restore it, quit Sekiro to main menu, copy backup save over save in above folder XBOX: Note: I don't have an Xbox, I got this from the webs, so try at own risk: - Quit game at point you want to save (the game will save to the cloud) - as soon as achievement displays, press Home-Button - scroll down to Sekiro Shadows Die Twice - press Options > Manage Game > Saved Data - click Gamertag > Delete Saved Data > Delete from Console - if it still shows the save, delete it again until it’s gone - press Home-Button and restart the game - it will now sync / download your save from cloud
