If you don't have a doctorate already some institution should give you an honorary one so we can finally call you Dr. Sage! You're one of the most knowledgeable people I've come across and we appreciate all that you do.

Superb. You are one of the people who impart real, hard information and don't focus on "personality" schtick to drive your channel.

Just sheer old school know how and knowledge, along with absolute transparency in the quality of fish you breed. You and your way of doing things are what my old school brain relates to best. Thank you for taking the time to put together these videos for us.

Really awesome video Greg! I like the long-term feeding potential of your system and I might have to make an upgrade so I can do similar. For now, I have a nice about 1/3L system that hatches just enough to feed my young fish once a day nicely, but larger batches turned into cubes would be stellar across all my tanks - thanks for the advice!

Why I don't feed live - I just found the logistics easier to produce the shrimp, freeze it and always have it available in measurable, consistent feedings, as opposed to timing the hatching of batches on this scale. For me, the pros outweighed the cons to prepare it ahead of time. Thanks for asking!

Thanks for the video. I am no expert, but i am looking for an expert opinion on this. I assumed that people like to feed live food because the live movement triggers fish (fry) to eat (more vigorously?). If you do hatch to freeze the nauplii, why not just feed (cheaper) decapsulated (non hatching) eggs directly to the fish?

I have seen hatchers similar to that, and they can work great for hatching small quantities. Glad it's working for you!

Amazing Tutorial. Thank you Greg. On a side note, I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem - to me the audio quality is poor. I apologize in advance if it is a problem on my end, if it is please do let me know. Greg, may I please recommend using a microphone for your recordings? I look forward to hearing your voice better in your future videos. (edited for spelling errors..)

Great video! Couple questions if I may, do you store the bbs with fresh water or the salt water from the hatchery? And will the bbs die from freezing it? Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you

I know this video was 4 years ago and I am sure you have already found a remedy but I will mention it anyway. Rather than removing the air line each time you harvest, adding a "T" fitting in the airline just above the air valve and a plastic air valve with a length of line for harvesting you simply turn of the air and open the valve to the harvest line. When your done you shut the harvest line and turn on the air. No fuss no muss.

I noticed you use iodized salt. I heard that iodized salt hurts the brine shrimp. Does it really matter?

Are those rubber baby buggy bumpers? My Monties that I got from you in late May at the 2-4 mo juvy size are currently 1 - 1.5" and doing well. My lucipinnis which I feared were not eating actually look like rotund little piggies that are 1.25-1.5" long. My 20 or so shrimp did nothing for 6 weeks... and I now have close to 300! I knew that the red and blue plant pots were going to be mismatched in your fishroom... bFlat will do that to you!

I hatch my shrip in compete darkness no light source, they hatch fine.
@selectaquaticsoferie6 жыл бұрын
The issue with not using light, aside from evidence that light stimulates hatching, is that you are creating a small body of water with millions of organisms in it. Light also stimulates bacterial activity, so you will want all of the boost possible as they grow and molt through their first few hours. Light will assist in producing the healthiest nauplii possible.
@MoreChannelNoise6 жыл бұрын
Greg Sage I should have mentioned that once they hatch inside their dark container (a black plant pot with lid), they swim out, as there is a small hole midway down the plant pot (letting a small amount of light in I guess) and swim into an outer container where their is some natural light. I also don't use any aeration.

My understanding is that it is not only not a problem, but using iodized salt is recommended to provide iodine for the fish - Greg Sage
