Our irrigation pump pumps from a man made well made with a vertical culvert next to our irrigation pond and the well is 10 feet deep. Last season the irrigation pond went dry and I didn’t realize that so the pump had been running dry for a little bit would it be possible to install a float switch in the well at the bottom of the suction pipe and have the float switch control a contactor that controls the pump?

As long as you have room for the switch, typically you need at least 10 or so inches. A vertical float switch needs even less clearance to operate: www.rcworst.com/vertical-master.html

@@RCworstwater ok cool thanks the irrigation well I made is 4 feet in diameter. That should give me the 10 inches needed for a float switch. lol 😝 The reason I thought a float would work is because I tried one of those low water cut off pressure switches and it would kick off prematurely in low water mode even if the pond was full because of the inrush flow of the irrigation valves opening. So I’m going to switch back to the regular pressure switch and install a low water safety float switch.
