What an informative video. I would like to know some source material you'd recommend to learn more on this subject. I can definitely relate to what you said about having difficulty with body language such as nodding, eye contact and even whispering. That fact being part of SM is something I didn't think would be the case! What was it that you said about 'not the sufferer' from (0:55 - 1:03)? I didn't understand that part. Thanks in advance. - Your fellow SM.

+Eliezer Martinez (i3e5l4) Thank you! Helping Your Child with Selective Mutism: Practical Steps to Overcome a Fear of Speaking (www.amazon.com/Helping-Your-Child-Selective-Mutism/dp/157224416X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1447886424&sr=8-1&keywords=selective+mutism+books) is a good book to read pretty much for anyone, not just for someone who has a child with SM. There is also quite a lot of information online. www.selectivemutismnetwork.org/#!what-is-sm/ct03 is a good site. Wikipedia actually has a lot of great info, from symptoms to treatment. If you search 'selective mutism' online a lot of sites with information come up. I said, "Anxiety completely controls the select situation as to whether a person can speak or not, not the sufferer."

Alli Noelle | That makes perfect sense, thank you. When people tell us to "snap out of it" they're clueless about what this doesn't mean; the sufferer doesn't choose to suffer. Thanks for the reply and the additional information Alli! :-]
