I got rid of social media and noticed a significant change. My worst criticism was my family. If I made a post that was to boost myself, they saw an opportunity to through insults or shade. The worst part was that I've been bullied since childhood so my bullies were laughing at me still at parties and talking about how my family don't even like me. They had not the slightest clue I was molested and disowned for telling the truth. Not the slightest clue that a member in my family tried to kill me down the road. They have not the slightest clue about my health and medication I'm on for PTSD as an adult because of the emotional and physical scars they all gave me. Removing me from everyone gave me freedom I needed. KZbin is literally the only thing I get on to watch the news, animal videos and other positive things. Sometimes I find myself donating for a cause on here too 💁🏽‍♀️

Honest to god I worry about young women in our country. They feel pressured to compete in the social media scene which often encourages the opposite of what is good for them for their lives, relationships, mental well being. And no I’m not being a “simp” this is a real problem and I’ve met girls with clinical mental problems due in part to all this bad messaging they receive. And certainly young men often struggle in both similar and differing ways. I can speak to that myself. The biggest issue is young people getting the wrong message that superficial or other “measurements” determine their worth while those things only have value because people on the internet pretend they do! Quitting Facebook was one of the best things I did for myself, and I didn’t think I was even being negatively affected by social media. I just thought I was wasting too much time. Only after I quit did I realize how much it skewed reality and my priorities.

I’m not blaming social media entirely. Plenty of people use it without issue and in healthy ways. But since it fills the very powerful basic human social need and since it’s so novel (a departure from traditional socialization mechanisms like schools, neighbors etc) it has enormous potential for harm. It needs to be regulated in my opinion. I don’t think people under a certain age should be permitted to use social media, and this may sound radical but that age could be as high as 18 in my opinion. Further research exploring the interaction between social media use and childhood development can inform a potential age restriction.

Social media are just platforms that allow shallow modern women to bully, body shame people and project their toxic vile body shaming rhetoric lol It is these modern women and toxic feminism who are setting these "minimum standards" and "measurements" of beauty/body attributes as measurements of "value". You have modern women to blame for all of this, as they sit bullying, degrading any guy who isn't massively endowed thunder girth and meets their insane shallow penis size shaming "standards" blah blah blah

I think both Selena and Lizzo have spoken about this body shaming. Girls! Just saying, thesrsrr human of course it hurts. It hurts me and I am not a star, just a 65?year old woman!
