Hello, We are the traveling Teepsfam! Today, we’re diving into an unforgettable adventure as we explore the Ring of Kerry, one of Ireland's most scenic and breathtaking drives. Buckle up and get ready for a journey through picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and stunning coastal views. Here’s your step-by-step guide for driving the Ring of Kerry without a tour, perfect for the explorers at heart.
We followed a 10 day itinerary from theirishroadtrip.com and then made a few changes to fit our interests.
We had a wonderful rental experience via booking.com, who booked us a car through thrifty car rental.
We stayed right on the Ring of Kerry on the N 70 with great views!
Stop 1: Ross Castle
Ross Castle, located on the shores of Lough Leane in Killarney National Park, County Kerry, Ireland, is a 15th-century tower house built by the O'Donoghue chieftains. The castle is notable for its strategic design and picturesque setting, with a defensive position that includes a lake and wooded surroundings. Historically, Ross Castle played a significant role during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, falling to General Ludlow's forces in 1652. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction, offering guided tours that showcase its historical architecture and the life of its past inhabitants. The castle also serves as a starting point for boat trips to the scenic islands on Lough Leane.

Stop 2: Ladies View

Stop 3: Molls gap
Moll's Gap is a picturesque mountain pass offering breathtaking views of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks and the verdant valleys below. Named after Moll Kissane, who ran a popular 19th-century shebeen (an unlicensed pub) in the area, it is a favored stop for travelers seeking stunning landscapes. The pass features a charming café and gift shop, Avoca, where visitors can enjoy local crafts and refreshments while taking in the dramatic scenery. This is also where we you'll take a sharp turn up the mountain and lead to some stunning views

Stop 4: White Strand Beach
White Strand Beach, located near Miltown Malbay in County Clare, Ireland, is a beautiful sandy beach known for its clear waters and scenic surroundings. Popular with both locals and tourists, it offers a tranquil setting ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and beachcombing. The beach is also a great spot for exploring rock pools and enjoying views of the Atlantic Ocean. With its Blue Flag status, White Strand Beach is recognized for its high environmental and quality standards, making it a perfect destination for a relaxing day by the sea.
Stop 6/7: Stop at all the viewpoints that look interesting along coomanaspig pass
Stop 8: The Cliffs of Kerry
The Cliffs of Kerry, located on the Iveragh Peninsula near Portmagee, offer stunning views of the rugged Atlantic coastline, with dramatic cliffs rising sharply from the ocean. These cliffs provide a less crowded but equally spectacular alternative to the famous Cliffs of Moher, allowing visitors to experience breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife, and the raw beauty of Ireland's western coast. The entry fee to visit the Cliffs of Kerry is generally around €4 for adults, with discounts available for children, seniors, and groups. The site also features a visitor center with information about local geology and ecology, enhancing the overall experience.
Stop 9: (optional) Portmagee bridge to Valentia Island and leave via the ferry at Knight's town. see the slate factory and views. stop for a bite of food.
Stop 10: Rossbeigh Beach

The itinerary estimate we had based on research was about another 2 hours between driving , ferry, stop off for pictures or snacks and an option to stop at the slate mines for a photo.
