Eesshhh the world is a little weird right now isn't it? In this video (hi, by the way! It's been a while, sorry) I chat through how I'm managing my type 1 diabetes while self-isolating alone as the world tackles the coronavirus global pandemic, and the things I'm doing to stay healthy and productive during this disconcerting time - as much as possible. Because sometimes Netflix and wine is the only answer...
NOTE: I filmed this the day before the UK was put into lockdown by the Government. But everything in this video applies in lockdown as much it did in self-isolation.
Stay safe everyone, and stay at home. Sending love.

I’m NHS pharmacy staff at a children’s hospital in central London. I asked to be removed from the ward I was working on last week due to CV-19 patients both confirmed and suspected being present (mostly in side rooms but not all). I’m T1 with asthma and up until then I wasn’t worried about being infected but I am now working in the dispensary until this lockdown ceases. I never thought I would say or feel this but I’m a little stressed as I had Pneumonia for 3 months in winter 2019.. it just would not go away until I had a course of Doxycycline which helped a lot.... eventually. I wish I could isolate but I know my boss would give me lots of shitty audits and boring reports etc so I’d rather stay at work! Happy Wednesday everybody! xxx

Now, the world can be a nasty crazy place out there, we need a lot of courage and we need a lot of resilience after that, and we will fall down before we stand up… What really matters is the silence of the night in our conscience, when we are alone. We cannot control what happens but we can use what happens. We have so much reserves of love and support inside us, if we can just remember that in our mind and move on.

Well done jen, you are doing good. I am living with diabetes type one for more than 22 years. But , the current situation about covid19 makes me little bit scary. At last I would like to thank you to your positive or optimistic information.

Hi Betty! How are you? I hope you're doing ok in this weird time. Ha, the panic buying definitely meant there was no bread to carb count! The lack of eggs however is much more concerning, they're such a staple when my bloods are being funky. Hope you're staying safe and well x

Great informative video Jen!! This time is such an adjustment for us with respect to food and activity. I agree with you - we have more time to focus on our diabetes and "fine-tune" things, so why not! I've been trying to pre bolus more now that I have the time :) .

Hey Michelle! How are you keeping? Loving your videos as always! I feel like I've needed more of a pre-bolus time than normal, as my body isn't walking around as frequently, have you found that? Hope you're doing ok and staying safe!

Hi Jen, Good to hear from you, I was a little concerned, as you haven't posted for a long time. Thankyou for sharing, good tips, and as you say, so important to take to heart us type 1's are not alone as we support one another. No matter how much our love ones love us, it is hard for them to comprehend how we can never take a holiday from it.

Hi Rex! Thanks for saying hi. Life just gets in the way doesn't it - lots of work projects, weddings, and I also made a podcast around living with Type 1 if you haven't seen it. It's called Type 1 on 1 if you're into podcasts 😊 Yes I definitely think even those closest to us cannot experience this, although many are definitely just as 'involved', and I appreciate those that help me to carry the load. I hope you're staying safe and keeping well in these strange times. Take care

@@JenGrieves Hi Jen, Thankyou, doing OK , just very conscious of the importance of staying isolated being high risk. Have been riding my bike for a good ride every couple of days, good to get out. So far Australia hasn't been too badly affected considering. Pray we will all get through this. Take care Rex

We start shelter in place/ stay home officially in my state at 11:59 tonight, but I have been isolating for quite awhile too. Been a change, but I work from home and live alone normally anyway, so not much change there. But, a bit of a struggle knowing if I need anything I can’t just pop to the store and get it with my t1d immunity and asthma issues.

Hi Carol, thanks so much for watching. I hope you're coping ok. Thank goodness for technology for those of us isolating alone hey. I feel very lucky to have a safe space to isolate in so I'm trying hard to focus on that. It must be concerning for you with added conditions, I do hope you're able to get what you need. Take care x

Hi Deb! Yes I'm doing exactly the same, have made a few basal tweaks for the lockdown period but mostly just going with the flow and trying to keep moving. My blood sugars were creeping up late morning, I guess due to the lack of morning commute and walking to the office. I hope things have settled down for you. Take care x

Hi Jen, my 20 year old daughter is type 1, for 19 years now. She has being self isolating for a week now with her family. Yesterday she decided to go to the park with two friends and after she got home she said the park was packed with people and was impossible to keep a 2 metre distance with everyone. My wife and I went mad with her for doing this and demanded she take a shower and put her clothes in the wash ASAP. Are we over reacting as we’re telling her if you get covid19 you go to the hospital and your friends would stay at home in there rooms.

I've definitely had days like this too, you're not alone! The lack of movement has definitely impacted my BGs, I've had to tweak my basals a fair bit on days that I don't exercise. It's definitely easy to get frustrated but this is a difficult period of adjustment so I'm trying to be kind to myself with it. Sending virtual hugs, I'm with you! Take care x
