Use to Love doing the floors when I was in vaxhall college one day a week 17 years of age with the sand and lime putting the datim points in getting the straight edge on it and float when it was done nice and level and smooth you feel like you've achieved something special never done it on the building sites for wimpy and redrow housing should of stuck at it and finished my time when I was young and nieve am 41 know with no trade at the time my practical was spot on so every one said but couldn't do the paper work which made me fail am sorry to say let's hope more kids get on the trowel because a good plasterer is hard to find defecation and willing to learn that's all you need kids its hard work but once to master the art of plastering you'll feel a big satisfaction keep up the good work kirk lad all the best 👍

@@robert.wigleyyou don’t need to be an arsehole, the guy said he couldn’t do the paperwork so maybe grammar isn’t his strong point but he’s probably a better plasterer than you or me - I’m a huge advocate of proper grammar but it’s very easy to read what the guy said and understand the point he’s making - we’ve all got strengths and weaknesses - clearly, being respectful to people isn’t one of your strengths & you should actually apologise to the guy

Glad you started to call it smoothing compound...as you stated, people just pour and leave it to "self level"... Which is why companies changed to calling it smoothing compound.... Also a good gauge for "level" is the reflection of straight objects on the shiny floor.... Like the double glazing bars... The straighter they are the "leveler" the smoothing compound is....

I always shine the laser level across the floor to figure out where the hollows and hills are before I start. Pour in the hollows and work it with the trowel towards the hills. For large format tiled floors I find it's best to set some height gauges every 2ft and work the compound to them.

Thank you for the video bro! I will do that in a couple of weeks. I have no experience, but I bought all the equipment including the spikes, so there is no going back.

use this stuff quite often when levelling floors for tiling, (still an apprentice) but I remember the start when it was my 3rd or 4th time mixing it up and i got the hang of it. i decided i was going to bring it up the stairs for my mentor and ended up spilling it all down the stairs 😂 he makes sure i don't forget about that lol . luckily hes nice enough to clean it up with me 😂

That no nonsense I found to be very good! Better than some of the more expensive others! Laid my big garage floor with it in minus 2oC, 60 sq metres, 4mm deep,in 2 hours on Xmas eve with my good woman mixing! About to go off to the outlaws and…..a bloody Robin flew in,…😮 got lucky apart from 2 or 3 poos before it flew out! Little shite! Cheers

How would you prime if you were doing this ovwr a ceramic tiled floor. Neat primer or diluted?
@Onthetrowel5 күн бұрын
Neat mate
@confuzinjonoКүн бұрын
Neither , as a 58yr old tiler I would always use what we call a slurry bond coat . Basically because the surface of the ceramic is not porus you need it stick , so you mix a small amount of power adhesive into your primer with the power added it will bond to the ceramic much better . Hope that's helpful . Jon the tiler

SO, if I manage to get the mix right, spread it quick like. How long before the lquid becomes un-workable and how long before I can walk on the floor?
@paulchadwick19046 күн бұрын
The teacher looked like he was doing a winter job, I guess its quicker when hot...
@Onthetrowel6 күн бұрын
I couldn't put that in the video because different times of year the heat will affect it and different manufacturers of leveling compound will have different set times. You have usually got about an hour and can usually walk on it after about 5 hours

The stuff they sell at Home Depot here in the U.S. dries extremely fast. There is no way that you would be able to go over it all again with a spike roller after doing a room that size. It's a shame because I think if it set slower it would be much better. Luckily I did a ton of research before using it, but reading the comments on the Home Depot web site, a lot of people did not and created a huge mess..
@Neverforget1334 күн бұрын
Many problems with this Firstly no expansion foam tape around the edge You didn't measure the water content it tells you the quantities on the bag to much water, and it will not have the same strength the first lot was too watery, and the last lot was too thick the water content is critical use a measured bucket.
@Onthetrowel4 күн бұрын
You said many problems and then mentioned two nonsense comments. I'm self leveling a floor not screeding it so no need for foam tape. That is for expansion and contraction as a screed sets so it doesn't push against a solid wall and cause a bit of cracking around the edge. Second, the mixes were all gauged with a measuring bucket so they all had exactly the same ratio of water per bag..... as mentioned in the video. 👍

@gavinhay66273 күн бұрын
Surely as a professional, you know self levelling compound doesn't actually self level. You need to mark your low and high spots, use a laser level and a stick to make sure you're hitting your marks. You did none of that, and had no way of knowing if that poured level or not.
