take care of yourself and be the best person you can be. know your limitations and be humble. its like an inner mantra.

"Your self-worth cannot be defined by how much you sacrifice on the altar of someone else's needs." YES. This is a recipe for disaster and fuels codependency and total energy vampirism. It's healthier and better for everyone involved if those who do assume the caregiver role lend some of their love and care to themselves. Amazing video🙏

I have no idea how to do this. I have this deep fear that if I am not useful or helpful to others they will abandon me, and also that if I am not selfless enough then I am running a risk of becoming selfish and thus unworthy of love.
@ChezzaOuttaNowhere7 жыл бұрын
Hunny, you will be abandoned and those people will leave room for people that will accept that you have boundaries and are broken and need to be loved on, and you'll get what you need, and it will feel weird, and you'll see how manic you were in your giving and you'll wonder why you never let it be ok for you to just be taken care of, and you'll feel a sanctimonious guilt about that and eventually, you'll get well and balance out. Or, you can just go head and break apart and experience a bit of self-service, let people fall where they may and choose to own it and say "fuck you" to shame. "I did that so you wouldn't have to go through that"-Jay Z

Like anything else, learning to let go or to step back from relationships that are codependent is a process, and it often begins with small steps in a direction that's more self-loving. Rather than think about the overwhelming prospect of completely shifting these relationships, it may be more helpful to ask yourself what you can change today to begin the slow shift. You might begin by asking how you can give yourself the same care and respect you give to others and begin there. It's never selfish to love yourself and to act with your own best interest at heart. This way, you don't have to depend on others to give you what you need--you can give it to yourself. So much love

This video has been great to remind me to put my needs and feelings first. I get so wrapped up in helping others that I forget about me. I need to start telling others that I can not always be the one to get things done for them. Thanks Kelly!

I can't thank you enough for this. I have crashed and burned trying to do everything without rest. I thought I could do it "all", but I couldn't. I'm slowly building MYSELF back up to my normal, happy level. Thank you for putting this into words.

Hi Kelly-Ann - thanks so much for #selfloveseptember! I am constantly trying to find that sweet spot of prioritizing my needs. I am taking a much needed women's retreat in the Redwoods for the next 5 days - no phones, no job, no kids or hubby. No worries. Ahhhh. I can feel the self-love wash over me. Thanks again for these powerful videos!

Not asking someone to co-sign on self care & the cost of neglecting self care.. Super helpful concepts. Thank you. 💛

Synchronicity! I just started back up at my teaching job and they were asking us to do some things that we are not contractually obligated to do, way outside the job description that would require me to spend time away from my own children at night (and I live an hour away from where I teach). I was feeling guilty about not being a "team player." But I really need to hold better boundaries. I am doing my best to be a good teacher, but I just can't give above and beyond when I have my own family to care for.

Yes I agree, I don't justify anything, I have no problem saying NO..it's my favorite word..my cousin even gave me earrings that say No..I just won't do something if I don't want to..people call me selfish but I don't feel selfish at all. Then they try to make me feel like I'm selfish and when it doesn't work they resort to other measures but I won't give in..I only give in if I want to.. This is a great video,,so helpful in so many ways, Love Love Love it. Thank you Kelly-Ann.

I have to repeatedly remember to stop myself from justifying my self-care & self-care purchases in particular. I'm getting much better at this, but the underlying urge is sometimes still there. It's an internal feeling of prioritizing others needs ahead of my own (which is how I was raised to be). I also now look at others who ask me justify or explain or put off self care as a huge red flag.

This is perfection but I have a weird similar situation... Animals get in my way! I'm very often home alone with fur babies who seem to know when I need a moment and frustrate me. The worst is a neighborhood dog that barks/whines and ruins my attempt at just enjoying my tea in my yard. So every attempt at relaxing annoys me and I've had it to the point of adding complaints/fixing this neighbor dog situation to the list!

BlacKat Pride Hmm, that one is tough! Dogs can be trained but cats don't really tend to be trainable.. And of course dogs can be trained much more effectively if they are actually yours; if they're someone else's it gets tough.. Can you get any downtime elsewhere aside from your house for now? And have you considered soundproofing in an area of the house which might allow for this?

Yes I had to take care of someone for three years and I had to every three months get someone to take my place for a week so I could take time for me. If I hadn't done that I would have died.
