Madame C.J. Walker was a first class lady, with class and style, and knew how to spend her money, right. There wasn't anything shabby about her home, or herself. And all those women, 10,000, that worked for her. Not only was she the richest self made, but she was also the most generous. That was some kind of good heart she had. Hope there will be others who help as many people as she did, including myself.

Varldine Sss like we always have? darker women are constantly blaming lighter black women for black men’s aesthetic preferences. Save it.

Katie Stops I never said light skin women don’t struggle or experience racism. But because we live in a western society darker skinned women OBVIOUSLY have it worse. I don’t know where you live but I’ve never seen a light skin be bashed for not being black enough, most people actually praise it, especially in the media. All you see is light skin women representing us black females.

The woman had a scalp condition which is why she experienced hair loss - not mentioned in the series - they heavily implied her abusive husband was the cause of it. Her "nemesis" was loosely based on the real Annie Malone a FULLY black woman with TWO black parents of brown complexion, like Madam CJ Walker. They had their difference but colorism was not the issue between them them. Madam CJ Walker worked for Annie Malone. No evidence that her husband cheated on her with a light skin woman. No evidence that A'Leila Walker was gay. No evidence that Ransom was a gambler. No evidence that Booker T. Washington was a sexist. The lies in this...I lost track. Plus, the black men is trash narrative waa strong in this one.

I hated how they portrayed those two as rivalries, while in fact Walker worked for Malone for quite some time. Also, Malone was not that light-skinned. Very disappointed on how they had to put colorism in here. This is exactly why the light skinned vs. dark skinned fiasco will never die. Our people just refuse to let it go. Also, they could’ve left Haddish out. Her accent was horrible and she brought nothing but cringiness throughout the entire movie.

She behaves as if she were better because she is light-skinned. In actuality, Annie Malone was the same skin tone as C.J. Walker. @@varldinesss26 Light skin or dark skin is not the issue. I think most people are really bothered because the movies makes it seem as if Annie Malone she did not accomplish much of anything. I want to see the actual accomplishments of light AND dark skinned women. All women have had had to fight to make our voice heard. Neither one of these women were dark skinned, so I do not see that as the issue at all. Light skinned women are black too! Phillis Wheatley, was a dark skinned woman ,and she was the first African-American woman to publish a book of poetry. Mary Eliza Mahoney is recognized as the first black nurse in the United States. Kenyan environmental and political activist Wangari Maathai was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in the United States. All three of these women were dark skinned and they accomplished alot. They are never portrayed in a negative light. Mae Jemison is an engineer, physician and NASA astronaut. She became the first African-American woman to travel into space in 1992. Her skin is more of a medium brown color, but she is talented and successful. We need to stop worrying and wondering if our skin is dark enough or light enough. We need to celebrate each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Annie Malone who they LOOSELY based Addie Monroe on was a FULLY black woman with TWO black parents (both slaves), just like Madam CJ Walker. Both women were also BROWN skin. Walker was actually LIGHTER than the actress who portrayed her. Madam CJ Walker also did indeed work for Annie Malone and there is some evidence that may point to Walker stealing Malone's formula. The women were at odds but colorism was NOT the cause. The series was a disservice to BOTH Walker and Malone. Colorism needs to be talked about but characters and a storyline was completely FABRICATED for the sake of creating drama. When it comes to our black pioneers we have to care about the FACTS first and foremost.

We are building the script for An Unlikely CEO. Definitely want Octavia Spencer playing the lead character Jolyn Robichaux. Check out the book on Amazon.

Indeed, it inspires us all! Even if the series is somewhat exaggerated, as movies will do to history- She seems amazing, intrepid and unsinkable! I am inspired!

I watched all episods in one morning, I enjoyed it very much but I wish if there wasn't light skinned vs darkskin kind of thing going on. How historically accurate is it? well people need to make their own research! This show has done it's job by introducing us to this women. To be honest, I had no idea about her before.

I am familiar with her. Very disappointed in the series. The light vs dark thing was ridiculous and inaccurate. Pretty disappointed that Octavia Spenser would lend her talents to this series.

@@ld4974 yeah I can understand how disappointing watching this could be especially for people who have the knowledge about this history.

This wasn’t meant for Tiffany. She turned this into a comedy when it shouldn’t have been a comedy. I love the story and I love all the talented actors. It just wasn’t filmed the way I think it should have been filmed. I wanted to see a more serious historical tone.

Why don't the people saying there was a less than stellar light placed on the other lady step up and do her the justice she deserves as they see it?

She was never the first self-made Black female millionaire in the USA, though. That well-worn lie has been repeated for decades, but it's historically incorrect, like most of this movie. Mary Ellen Pleasant of San Francisco, CA was the first.

I think seeing Octavia Spencer in anything just makes the film for me. The moment she's on screen, I just know I'll enjoy it...until she's not on screen.
