I think that by injecting water in the bottom and letting the steam rise through the cans and out the hole in the top, the steam pushes out all the air. This insures that what you have in the engine is a "saturated vapor". No air. All steam. The expansion and contraction ratio of steam (water vapor) when it changes phase, evaporating and condensing is several orders of magnitude greater than air. Thank you for your persistence and dedication and generosity in sharing what you have discovered.

Yes this sounds plausible, I think so too.

i dont know why youtube recommended this... but I ain't complaining. I'll be the first to say this, this channel has a bright future

an enclosed system where the water evaporates and then condensates back to the bottom would be very interesting. .
@HVE2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, that I have had in mind since a while, It requires some sort of piping to direct the water from the top to the bottom of the engine. In this current format the water droplets will not pass through the glass beads barrier. I am working on a solution
Maybe instead of the glass beads rice of whatever you can use cooling pipes to condensate the water vapor more abruptly, thus they pass the barrier and heat the floor.
@tiobeto901510 ай бұрын
@@sierraecho884 that would be the same as the stirling cycle, but with moisture instead of atmospheric air or helium.

have you tried poking a very small hole in the balloon and the location of heat being introduced is critical to the standing wave
@sierraecho88410 ай бұрын
This would weaken the balloon, a pressure valve which can be set to different pressures would be best, this way you can set it once and forget about it without weakening anything.

fantastic!I think this is the most interseting vedio of thermoacoustic heat engine.😀Hope to see more.

High friend :) thank you for the video and demonstration :)

Very cool! Thanks for the demonstration and info. How would one transmit the energy from this engine into usable power? And then how much power would it be?

Mine is not working at all what can be the reason? 😭

Do you think it matters whether cold water is injected after the reservoir is initially heated? I built your engine and managed to get it running really well, but I find it really difficult to get it started. The reason I ask is that I don't have a syringe on hand so I've just been filling the reservoir before putting it over the stove. Based on your videos, my best guess is that a flash of steam from adding cold water is what gets it running more easily since that's the only thing I'm not doing. By the way, I was able to run it at high speed without the steel wool but instead with the upper can having a bottom with holes drilled into it so that it can hold the rice. A mesh might work better. Maybe you'll want to try that and see how it goes? You've really inspired me here, so I'll keep experimenting. Thanks!
@HVE2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. As a matter of fact after lots of experimentation i eventually decided to get rid of steel wool because no matter what i did, it get rusted and destroyed after several days of operation (which is obvious due to the water in the engine). I used a stainless steel wool and glass beads which works as good. I will try now without stainless steel wool and if that works then the internal part of engine will be totally robust. Very good idea to create whole on one of those cans, I will try that, thanks for the idea. Regarding the adding water directly into the engine, I assume for your case the temperature will not go really high because water is there always, for my case the temperature of bottom of the can be several hundreds of degree and the water just play as the medium to increase heat transfer thought the engine. that is the difference i guess

@@HVE Thanks! Actually, I think I figured out why I had trouble starting it. I've been holding the engine with my hand because I don't have an induction cooktop, affecting the resonant frequency and preventing it from starting. Once I set it down on a firm surface it starts on its own! I also replaced the rice with smooth aquarium gravel and that works quite well.
@HVE2 жыл бұрын
@@tenbitcomb Indeed if you don't have it on a firm surface it will have very hard time to start.

How far up into that tall engine does the steel wool go? Is the entire top 2/3 of the engine empty? Also, did you test the parameter of how much of the glass beads you should use for best performance?
@HVE2 жыл бұрын
I bought new glass beads with larger size, i will check how the size of glass beads and the amount will impact.In the blue engine that i showed, an aluminum can of ~5cm is used and on top of it ~6 cm of steel wool and thereafter 2 cm of glass beads. so maybe top 1/3 is empty.
