The leaders, the USA, want us to become a multiplanetary species, but humans are resistant to change, so a tragedy has to happen for us to change our mindset about staying on this Earth. They are creating that war; they won't solve anything. Just try to survive.

Id say because we have a lot of unhinged countries that don’t care about progression and still just care about land. There’s no changing their minds. Just leaving them behind sounds best to me and for our the future.
@karimbennett565123 күн бұрын
It would be much easier to build impenetrable underground vaults here on Earth for some to survive an extinction level event here. Also, a Martian colony could be nuked by missives fired from orbit.
@manwiththeredface782123 күн бұрын
How about an O'Neill cylinder in Earth orbit first? Much closer than Mars, can be built from lunar materials, gravity can be adjusted, temperature can be adjusted, can be abandoned in case of emergency, there's no gravity well to spend a fortune worth of fuel to escape from or atmosphere to struggle flying through. O'Neill cylinders and Stanford toruses seem to be the future anyway for the reasons above. Once we get the hang of it they will be so much cheaper.
@mabusestestament22 күн бұрын
Because then that would also simply get nuked.

what we should do, is build an entire planet that can also travel across the universe. that way, we can explore AND live there at the same time, that'd be cool. it'll take millions of years to construct probably but it'd be worth it haha

@iinRez22 күн бұрын
Did you know that Space X lowered the amount of space trash going up exponentially with their re-usable rocket design and Starlink satellites are deployed low enough to de-orbit themselves when communication is lost so they don't become debris? Space Exploration leads to innovation that benefits Earth greatly. The healthcare innovations that have come because of the ISS program alone are proof.

Long term being a multiplanetary species is a good idea, but our technological, ecological and cooperative know how right now is quite short of seeing that goal for at least several more generations.
