While putting my daughter through college, I drove a rusted out 1997 Ford Explorer which I purchased for $1800. After she graduated, I bought myself a decent car, but still kept the Ford for snowy days because it was so dependable. I only got rid of it when it had to be towed away. There is no shame in living within your means.

I paid $5k for a 2007 Buick Lacrosse sedan with 65k miles from a 90 year old woman going into a nursing home. Still got it. Runs great. It's plain looking but very reliable with the 3800 motor.

It works…it works…it works. 10 years ago we SNAPPED out of it. Sold high end SUV and a sports car. Both brand new. Started driving a much much older pickup and small high mileage car. Ten years later we have built more net worth than the 25 years prior. There is NO vehicle being sold out there that would persuade me to go back in debt. Friends, it truly is not worth it

The thing you will realize after driving a cheaper car for a while is once you can afford to pay cash for the nice one you wanted you won't want it anymore. I drive a 325k mile 2004 4runner I could go to the dealer today and pay cash for a new one, but I have no desire to as it would feel like a complete waste of money. My old one gets me from A to B. Who cares what other people think.

I'm driving around an 2007 Prius with 208k miles on it when I could pay cash for a luxury car, but it keeps me down to earth, and with the way people drive in Las Vegas, I like having a car that I don't need to baby. There's nothing wrong with having a boring vehicle; just check your ego and get on with your wealth building.

A new reliable car can be as cheap as a used one over time. Especially when there are rebates and discounts on outgoing models. Currently used cars are so overpriced a new one can potentially be cheaper per year if you keep it a long time.

Slowly upgrade, keep saving, keep upgrading. Most aren't familiar with delayed gratification though, I think that's where the problem lies. They rationalize financing a car by telling themselves they're saving money because it's "more reliable"

Someone needs to talk about the flip side of buying cheap cars. $5000 car is the new $1000 and they break! I know how to do most of my own repairs but I work too much to have time to do major repairs. Imagine if you have to pay a shop to fix them with labor rates of $150 hours! I speak from experience, I’m accumulating a collection of cheap, broken cars with no time to fix them!

Best and worst time to buy or sell a car. Sells car now and will over pay for a lesser car. Car manufactures have zero inventive to ever ramp up production when they are making more per car now than ever. Dealerships also have zero incentive to get more cars on the lot because they have to pay per car when they make make a killing selling one with a giant markup.
