As I mentioned a couple of videos ago, a bore scoping of the cylinders would have saved you a ton of time and if the seller allowed you to do it pre-purchase, you could have made a better informed decision to purchase or not. These UTV's seem to be really difficult to work on because everything is crammed in. Pick your battles bud! Thanks again for the great content!

I'm rebuilding a 2012 Polaris RZR 900 XP engine for the 3rd time. Completely Rebuilt the bottom end last spring and only got about 10 months out of it before it started pushing all of it's coolant into the overflow. No coolant in the oil though. Pulled the head and had a machine shop check it out and they found several small cracks in it. Just spent $1400 for a new OEM head and gaskets and ARP head studs for it. With any of the twin cylinder Polaris RZRs you will want to install a manual override kit for the radiator fan. The fans kick on at between 205-210 and the computer will shut the engine down at 240f. Not alot of wiggle room between the fan duty cycle and the engine overheating. This will be the last Polaris sxs that I will ever buy. Don't care if the newer ones are better or not. They are a HUGE pain in the ass to work on and they are NOT reliable.

I think the people who designed the Polaris Slingshot had little to 0 common sense....Had they designed a removable/partially removable weather enclosure for it. People could drive/use it year round as a commuter car. Then removable the top in summer on nice days. Fwd would have been better. Or awd with the ability to change wheels & adjust suspension. For an on/off road vehicle....Instead they went 1 rwd with no weather enclosure 😂

Here’s a tip for some people that don’t know. It’s easier to push a vehicle by rotating the tires by hand then pushing or pulling from bumpers os body. The only thing about rotating the tire is that it’s more dangerous that way. Best done on a flat surface in a building or outside maybe if you are just wanting to move a vehicle just a short distance to position it somewhere

Best thing that could happen is you pull this Polaris out and immediately put in a Tesla Motor and battery. Better performance all the way around and makes much less noise and roaring like these fandango do & have better acceleration. Only they don't break after 10 months.

With the machine in such good shape, little abuse shown on the body and chasis, the question that should be ask is, with so few miles and little abuse, why did it need the total rebuild. I am not familiar with RZR's but one would expect them to last longer than this one did before a total overhall was needed. One could assume that there was little or no maintenance performed on this RZR during its ownership. Pretty sketchy that the oil was overfilled and no oil in the filter. One other possibility you didn't mention - the one piston's rings were installed correctly, but there was a mistake in, say, the oil ring of the other. Maybe it caught on something on the edge of the bore, and started spewing chunks down into the crankcase, eventually clogging the oil pickup before getting much worse and jamming the piston against the bore, causing it to blow out like that. (I don't think we can rush to a bad cylinder -- it just looks like it would if you wedged something very hard in between the piston and the bore. That outer pressure has to give somewhere.)

Cool machine, has quite a few extra bits, shame it blew up, at 3000MI, must have been abused (over revved?) Usually when the coolant overflow is empty, there was a leak (head gasket?). Be careful of hidden cracks cause the guy rebuilt it and then it blew up, so maybe get all those parts that hold coolant crack checked. l I'm sure you will turn it into a shredding machine! A rebuild at 2500 miles? That had to be some really hard miles. Can't wait to find out about the oil pump. I think that's the ticket.

You got a hell of a deal, even with a $2k rebuild!! These go for $10k plus here in Michigan, at least what I've seen 🙂

I kind of knew that this machine was a full strip because of the crank that moving. You did a great job diagnosing it. If it wasn't I was hoping that you would catch that dirt that fell into the intake carburetor butterflies. I don't know how much a full engine would cost for that but I'm wondering if the new models would fit in that machine. Yes it is a good morning when Joe posts. Can't wait to see this thing ripping on the land.nice clean Razor Joe!

With an issue like this, and the fact that the mileage is so low, I'd try contacting Polaris to see if they'd be willing to work with you on this. Unless this was a common problem, I think they might pick up the cost of replacement parts at the very least. The worst thing they could say is "no." 🤷🏻‍♂️

Man my gut just sank when I saw what you bought. Ive never seen a used Polaris story turn out well. I honestly don't know how they get repeat customers. I guess they dump them as soon as the warranty expires.

2vintage Joe Weber ? you got to buy yourself a Endoscope inspection camera so you can inspect before you start the tear down. like for example: if you wanted to check the bottom end of engine you could drain engine oil, then slide Endoscope inspection camera through the oil drain plug hole and look around inside. if buy one don't buy a wireless Endoscope inspection camera because they lag.

Good idea with the engine hoist😂 seems to me either the rings were gapped tight or it was cold revved hard and squeezed the cylinder apart, or there was previous unresolved damage

It's gotta be a lack of oil pressure or pump related. I think. I can't wait to find out.
