I just don't understand why she couldn't pressure seal them? All of my grandparents made something pressure sealed all my childhood (pickles, marmalades, compote or just soups) and we still pickle a few jars of pickles every year. It is not hard and you can do it normally in the kitchen. Not that it would solve the whole situation but not pressure sealing things makes it dangerous even if it was for her only.
@annabanana7084 Жыл бұрын
Yes it's easy but I'm sure your grandparents made sure they cleaned and boiled the jars first but no one can see how this woman does what she does. People just can't take her word for it. Also no one can see if her kitchen is clean from things that can cause bacteria. It's not safe to sell and buy homemade foods over the internet

It comes down to the simple fact that canning and selling pickles with a Home Cottage License in California isn’t allowed regardless of the method. To get your license you need to fill out what product you’re selling along with samples of the ingredient label. Once that label is approved you can’t make any changes to it without submitting another form and getting additional approval. You can tell when people have never worked in food service in their life. Constantly warned about packaging and reheating methods teaches you all about this stuff. Had a mamager that wanted me to heat up nacho cheese wrong and the risk could have been botch. He was like "well Ive never had issues with it" and I went "well Im not a gambling kinda girl." And handed him the bag of cheese and walked away. Basically saying he could gamble with lives if he was so inclined to do so but I would take no part. Another reason I feel kitchen/food or FACS classes should be mandatory in High school as well. People actually knowing about food safety literally saves lives.

I hope Pickle lady keeps improving herself and not be a repeat of Pink Sauce lady. But she has a way to go to get people to trust her again. I hope she learns how to properly sterilize and seal the jars and she better show it on camera. Botulism is a typical issue with these kinds of products which is why it's highly important when you can/seal you must be sterile in the process. Even doing it at home for yourself. As long as you sterilize your jars and then seal them properly as well as minimal contact with the foods put in it then pickled products can last a very very very very long time safely. I watch channels with years old brines they pickle foods in, they use clean utensils to put foods in or take foods out in order to keep them sterile.

As wild as this situation is, at least she's handing out refunds and at least according to 6:31 is doing recalls, which is better than anything that the pink sauce woman ever did. Although I won't be buying anything from her, once she gets her business together I hope things can go well for her

I feel like there's so many more reasonable ways to start selling food, like why does everybody want to ship things online. Start locally and find out how those work first

Local communities and markets in the US have been killed by 20th century suburbanism. Everything is too sparce and ill-connected for small businessess to thrive. The internet has become a substitute for what used to happen literally on city streets and corners, before they were taken over by half-ton death machines.
@fajile5109 Жыл бұрын
If you have a food license go to local factory’s and ask if you can bring a food truck there. If you can get 2 or more on their lunch hours thats like 100-200 hungry customers. And you are only serving for 2 hours. If each person spends a average of 5$ thats 500$ in 2hours of work and maybe 2hs of prep. If it was me id go and sell bacon and grilled cheese during the first break. Then id come back with hamburgers and chicken bbqed. Guys would kill for me.

While she should have checked into food safety and handling laws, in kind of feel sorry for her. She seems like she's trying to make everything right and you know there are trolls out there giving her hell. I hope she can get past this and continue on selling a safe product.

@@drizzle27 did anyone get sick ?
@knado8135 Жыл бұрын
@alora No. This person obviously ignored the entire video, where it was implicitly stated that there have been no known cases of sickness from her pickles. Pink sauce lady, however, who had a product that contained dairy and shipped hot, absolutely got people sick...yet she has her sauce available in WalMart now. Interesting, I wonder what the difference is between these women with such different outcomes? Kinda destroys that whole privilege narrative.

Remember when old Cartoons made jokes where the Main Character was creating some kind of food. Walked in a store, put his stuff an an empty Shelf and tried to sell it. Just to get thrown out by an employer? Because you cant just cook something in your kitchen and then sell it? Thats basically what TikTok is now. SOOO many people creating TikTok Accounts just to sell their trash.
@Gamemaster-64 Жыл бұрын
Got an example? Can't remember that type of cartoon. Usually it door to door sales men. The way you said it reminds me of some story of a karen putting her stuff in a store to sell. Only to have it put in the trash and iirc kicked and banned from the store

It looks to me like she's trying to become legit. I'm kind of happy that the state of CA didn't fine her or anything, and used it as an opportunity to educate the public. Hopefully her experience will help others who might be wanting to do something like this as a small business. There's a lot of stuff you actually have to do, so research is extremely important for any new business.

As someone who has worked in food I find all this hilarious 😂 seriously like the internet has been learning so much about food processing and the legalities involved 😂😂 alot of this is really easily avoided too, like hello you have Google 😆 🤦🏼♀️ but then maybe she sort of already knew. Like I kept chickens for awhile and you can't just sell eggs. People do until they get a ticket or fine or something. I never sold eggs but I gifted some to my family members. I didn't have a bunch of chickens so selling them was never a motivation for me but my point is I knew that because I read about it in fb groups as it was a common topic.

Learned about botulism in HACCP training. It’s not something to mess with. We were told of a person who cooked green beans for her family. She tasted a green bean to see if it was okay and then cooked them and served them to the her family. She passed away and her family got really sick. Impossible to tell if it’s botulism by sight, smell or taste.
