Block the aisle get a manager or supervisor with hazmat certification to clean it.” I’ve had to pull our overnight team members aside and explain over and over again, to the same people, to not places boxes of chemicals on their side, because they can leak. The number of bottles that have leaked because of this is too many to count and it’s only a miracle that nothing has mixed together.

Personal Conspiracy Theory: I'm betting that the legal team told her manager that the company might be liable for the incident BECAUSE she wasn't properly trained. Firing her upsets her life and possibly makes her stop caring about the company. That way, she never has a chance to figure out that the company was at fault.
@GoldSpangledBananaBoy Жыл бұрын
Not really a conspiracy theory. Target is sketchy as hell.
@ShaggyRogers16 ай бұрын
That's exactly why she was immediately fired. They want her to move on and forget about the incident before she goes to the doctors about a burning sensation in her chest that keeps persisting. If she were to move on and they squash any documentation about the incident, then she would have to both remember about the incident and then seek legal compensation. If they kept bleach as a cleaning supply and failed to do any proper safety training with it, then they are OSHA responsible for what happens.
@cjb2749 Жыл бұрын
Legal advised them to let her go because- DUE TO HER LACK OF SAFETY TRAINING- she could later find out that she has scarring in/on her lungs and sue them. They likely withheld her termination documents to cover their own asses. Im currently a janitor and did work at walmart for about 4 years, and as far as my anecdotes go, we get trainings that specify that you do not mix any chemicals unless you know with absolute certainty what itll do, and even then to mix them you must get management approval if and when u must mix. But its not really feasable to get a cleaning kit that has zero bad reactions if mixed, due to the nature of cleaning chemicals, so instead they give you training not to mix them.
@wintershock Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m also a janitor as of right now although I have to clean with different chemicals. We don’t use windex or anything but we have a thing in the room where we store the supplies that has a variety of different cleaners. One for surfaces like desks and the floor, one for mirrors and a very diluted one for the lab. It is so important that we have our bottles labeled because if I mixed the glass cleaner with what we use for the lab, things could go very wrong. We even have the nozzles and buttons labeled so we know which liquid we are dispensing. If one of the labels is fading away, we replace it instantly. We don’t want to accidentally fill the wrong bottle with the wrong cleaner.

it's actually weirdly common for people to accidentally make chlorine gas while cleaning, at least here in the US. some cleaners have ammonia as a part of their detergents and stain cleaners, and other cleaners are less focused on stain removal but have bleach to disinfect surfaces. and since both are readily available, people go "hm i should mix the stain cleaner with the sanitizer to get this all done at once" and they poison themselves, though usually in their own homes and not at work. Mustard Gas is Sulphur based, she likely made chloramine gas. The reason they fired her is because, if she or someone else would have been hurt, they would have been liable for failure to properly train her. As there are laws in every state about employees handling potentially hazardous chemicals. Laws they (Target) clearly didn’t follow. She likely can’t talk because she has a wrongful termination case against Target.
@Rumplegirlskin Жыл бұрын
Her not receiving the termination papers means that she signed them and they included her admittance of her being told not to mix the product, but she mixed the products. The order did not matter. So it was like signing a confession. I’ve had to have people sign them and that is the reason, but I know it was never as shady. We also had to allow the ex-employee the opportunity to read over it before signing. Sometimes we would leave the room for a moment I remember when I was a little girl they would tell us in elementary that in the 40’s-60’s homemakers were dying from mixing every cleaning product they had. It normal had some form of ammonia in it. So they casually told us never to mix it because it produces 3 forms of gases. Which no one did while I was growing up. However, they didn’t tell my little sister this (I just asked) and they stopped giving out the toxic stickers every year to put on chemicals in the house. I doubt they even mention it anymore so what could happen is people (who weren’t into chemistry and not told at home) may begin mixing things again. But she didn’t know and like a commenter earlier pointed out, it could be that if she damaged herself, they may try to cover themselves from a lawsuit; but that wouldn’t work.

She ended up in the hospital with heart and lung damage. Sweetheart, just pour hydrogen peroxide on it, wait 5 minutes and wipe it up with a towel. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down to oxygen and water as it kills germs. Safe to wipe up, no rinsing needed. But Do Not mix it with anything else. Wipe up your nasty with paper towels or sweep it with a broom, soak with peroxide and wipe up the resulting water. Or if you want use white vinegar on your germs, but you need to let that sit about 30 minutes, then rinse. Bottom line, Do Not mix anything that has chlorine or ammonia with anything else.

She should seek legal council. It seems odd they fired her a month afterward, that they didn't want to give her copies of her termination related paperwork (if what she did was so egregious). If HR reached out to "legal" prior to firing her, it seems they just wanted to see if they could fire her for that - not that that was the reason they were firing her. For example, if I get hired at Walmart and steal a month into the job I'm getting fired. That day. They aren't waiting a month.
@aylajohnson1352 Жыл бұрын
yea, the way they tried to make it seem like she was told not to mix them, even tho she wasnt TRAINED made it seem like theyre firing her under the pretext that she knew, which she very clearly didn't. sounds like a way to try and cover it up, because target should absolutely be responsible for these kinda safety training and hazardous materials if theyre going to be using them to clean. wrongful termination for sure but even more... possible osha violations and target would not want to be caught lacking in that department.

target often requisitions out supplies off the sales floor to use. adding on to that, yes there is training about chemicals but we often miss the trainings or are told to quickly do them in 5 minutes to get back on the sales floor asap. you can only do training while clocked in (obviously) but they rush you through it. if you wanted to read thoroughly and actually understand the onboard training or PPE/spill training it would take probably 2 hours. we can’t waste the companies valuable time so it fucks the corporation over in the long run.

Her not being able to talk about it, actually might be a good thing. She could be going after them for wrongful termination. Or target could of reached out, and is working on a settlement with her. In some states, that would be illegal, since she was never shown, and her employer knew that.

@@noahhabbershaw8177 it's almost like you are unaware that special training has to be provided if you are *expected* to do a specific job handling hazardous materials or products that can bot only affect the worker but also the customers unknowingly.
