I went to school with Norman's daughter, Meryn. My house was opposite the old lifeboat station, now sadly hidden from sea views by the new station. We got battered a few times living there, first in '85 by the water spout then a year later by the hurricane. We were evacuated in the early hours and had to wait it out in the village hall. I loved waking up to the sea every day and Selsey will always have a special place in my heart.

@@manonabeachjourneys yes he's very much part of the fabric there; a lifeboat crew member and fisherman all his life. When we were kids we jumped off the old lifeboat gantry and Norman used to love giving us a ticking off for it. Thanks for bringing so many memories back.

@merynwoodland822 Hello Meryn. I have spent over 13 years collecting these 1,341 beach testimonies (so far) and your Dad was a massive highlight. I felt he let me into a thousand years of Selsey fishing and community heritage through your family, so thank you. I have put his interview on the site's homepage, along with others who made a strong impression on me. If I was you, I would be very proud. All the best. Cheers.
