(apologies if this is the second comment from me, I think the first one didn't post but I'm not sure) I feel like Mark would encourage the Immortal to watch him. Since he's so worried about turning into his dad, having The Immortal watchdogging him could be a safety net, where if Mark starts going bad, The Immortal can step in and smack some sense into him. And since they're both basically immortal, this can be a long-term kind of adversarial partnership.

I feel like other superhero media has poisoned the well on superhero relationships in that the non super is expected to just shut up and be happy they get to date a superhero lol. But that's not how healthy relationships between real people work. IMO Amber has every right to be upset when her boyfriend is always missing dates planned in advance and barely spends time with her and lies about it, regardless of the reason why. No one should be forced to maintain a relationship they're unhappy in just because the person they're with is doing good things for the world.

Exactlyyyyy. Unexamined tropes in general made it so that a lot of times when a character acts realistically hurt or angry about a situation, a lot of people respond “Wow, what a horrible emotional reaction, I hate you now.” without any analysis of why, or even how completely expected the reaction would be in the real world.
