@@razkable As Genkai taught, it's all about knowing your enemy's abilities. Hence, the villains stayed away from Kaito. I wouldn't say that he has the most broken power given that it also works against him.

@@razkable Kaito's territory is essentially a worse version of Game Master's. It's only good for stalling, and in the open world there's nothing stopping the enemy from simply leaving. When the objective is to stop the enemy from opening the tunnel at all costs, it only hamstrings the allies' options. Unless he can set the taboo as "you can't move while inside my territory," it's going to be hard to use it offensively, and even then, he's at risk of inadvertently breaking his own taboo when it's that easy to break. And even if he wants to take that chance, it has to be in a place where his taboo won't reach out to affect random bystanders or his own allies.

Love this arc so much. Yeah territory does add nice curves and twists to "I have more strength" battles. It makes it where tactics or ways to use your power matter more like Kuwabaras creative way of forming his energy.

This episode is one of my favs, I love the imposter game a lot. Yusuke's reasoning for why he chose Kuwabara was also super sweet in reference to what he said about Botan, it made me have the same reaction she did to it lol. Can't wait for this arc to truly begin!

I love the way this arc starts. A twist in which brute force is equal to nothing, an intriguing training mini arc and the continuation of a past plot being now relevant in it's full potential. It's because this little things that I freaking love Togashi's story development and creativity.

Didn't see it mentioned in the comments but, Yusuke's mom was actually supposed to be in the stands with the crew (manga), asking Google directly it says she didn't add anything to the story and was cut. I thought it was cool that she was in-the-know like Kaiko and cheered Yusuke on too but, oh well I suppose.

I'll say first that I love you guys' content and having recently found the channel, been going through a lot of your videos. Love your stuff, and keep it up. Thanks for the entertainment! With that being said... About 21:10 As someone who has something of a small hobby thinking about character powers - and thus, familiar to an extent with the "fictional what-if battles community" so to speak... I'll disagree with you guys on the thought of "The writer decides." Now without making myself look like a fool by ranting, most what-if death battles involve characters from different series! So no one author can decide which of them is stronger - in fact, we don't either! We think about it based on what powers they have displayed in their respective stories. Now I won't deny there are people who take it too far and obsess over it or get aggressive if discussion on any given battle doesn't go their way. But at the core of it all, it can be a fun hobby and topic of discussion, especially when done with close friends. I for one, love knowing and thinking more about character powers, learning more about them through these things. Of course we can say within a story that the author will decide who wins. But when we go outside that plot into crossover territory, and full author authority ceases to exist, it's not in anyone's hands to say who wins and how. Thanks again for the content and sorry if any of this sounds remotely like I'm ranting at you: My intention is just to explain "Hey, it's not like that, it can be fun and there is good reason to think about those thinks, regardless of author authority in their own story."

P.s.: Also as one of you two put at 21:20, even inside the author's own story, internal consistency is an important part of the plot. If a character who was consistently shown to be weaker defeats a far more powerful one in a way that is not believable enough and through sheer raw power (as opposed to say, something like the three students' special abilities here), it can make for really bad or unsatisfying plot resolutions.

I believe the anime had issues getting the actress for whatever reason, and so they basically replaced Mom with Yukina

I do disagree with y'all on the interrogation/imposter sequence. The anime did a great job of portraying the characters a tiny bit off with new and different perspective angles, their expressions, and the yukina tangent. It felt very intentionally and carefully sequenced, to portray that any of them could be the imposter

As Kurama said, if their foes wanted it more, they'd have surely lost. 3 people were already felled in the FIRST ROOM. Kaito has no reason to be so passive either, and could snipe anyone.

0katsuki0 You are right. The anime *does* have that moment. They did not react to it, which is a shame. Kurama actually tells Yusuke that his mother is engaged to be married and Yusuke is geneungly gleefully happy for her. It's a sweet little moment.

I know Kishimoto was clearly inspired by elements of HunterxHunter when writing Naruto but do y'all think he also drew from YYH? The "territory" of standing on and controlling shadows is very reminiscent of Shikamaru (Shikimaru?)

@@pablolacalle6098 I know for sure kishi has said that he was reading original dragonball growing up weekly but he may have quit by the early 90's around later 92 roughly cause by then he was a late teen....so by the time this chapter of yu yu hakusho came out in 1993 he was for sure past that stage in his life as a college age young adult...but like with hunter he may have looked at togashi work for inspiration and ideas cause by the time hunter began kishi was already working in the industry

Shadow powers are a ninja thing I think....if you think about it shikamaru has a unique ability to manipulate shadows through training he can learn to kill with them as he ages strangle you control you while moving and what not...that's different from kido...who just steps on them...and can move his own to draw and write I guess as he does shortly later....their not the same..he didn't copy it exactly but he was inspired for sure I would say influenced

the arguement wasn't "yusuke would've won because he's strong" the arguement was "Yusuke lost because he reacted ONLY via strength and nothing else". Yusuke's arguement was if he he'd known what his enemies could do he would bea them but as Genaki said how would he KNOW? Only an idiot tells you how your powers work before the fight, and Yusuke has no way of knowing his enmeies can do more than beat him with physical attacks or punch him r what have you. THis entire battle's point is showing that our protags are pretty much ABYSMAL outside of phsyical prowess (aside from Kurama). Even Hiei, the proud arrogant one, failed to proof his own smarts and tried to bruteforce things to 'prove' himself, highlighting his own pride makes him a MORON, and if they want to beat the ACTUAL villains they need to focus on MORE than their fists and weaposn to solve a problem.

To be fair on Yusuke and Kuwabara, they probably didn’t know powers like this were an option. Hiei however has lived long enough and has seen enough that he should know to be careful. And of corse Kurama’s experience showed.

Something togashi only uses once in this arc is someone using their territory while in someone else's territory...kinda wish he did it more often...maybe the gang each gains a new ability and has to use that to counter their foes ability....the 3 teens with territory we are pals with never think to use their power vs game master for example...
