Can you tell us Californians: 1. Where you have had to go for clinicals? 2. The approximate costs for travel, lodge, etc.? 3. How soon are you notified for clinical destinations before the clinical dates? 4. What the clinicals entail ( i imagine they’re different each semester). I’m so grateful for everything you post. I’m all I got and I’m wondering how realistic it is to work a full time 8 hr night shift job while attending. I can’t afford to go per-diem until it’s absolutely necessary. If you’ve answered this previously, I apologize for not seeing the videos. I just found out about Nightingale and your account was the first one I clicked and subscribed to. Also, the cost girl! The cost. lol

hey! all great questions unfortunately I don't have the answers to because I'm not traveling for my clinicals until the next semester. I do plan to share my experience and cost break down when I get to that part of the nursing program! I'm in the same boat with needing to work to provide for my fam so I totally get it! It's doable if you keep yourself disciplined and on a routine with the work needed to get done. Mainly getting all my work done at night until 12am-1am after I put my kids to bed. Thanks for watching! and yes I have addressed the cost in previous videos lol but girl I don't even remember which one but mine overall cost $43k and I transferred 57 college credits and tested out of 3 courses as an LVN. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hiiii I would like to give some insight I’ve gone to clinicals this semester I spent a total of 1k (a little under) with flight/rental/hotel/food. It helped to find ppl going through teams DFC travel Facebook also has some pages dedicated to find fellow learners going to the same spots. I shared a rental car. Was notified 5weeks in advance it was pretty early in the semester I traveled week 6 was sent to Denver Colorado. Post acute care. Travel depends what class you’re in NG provides a map that shows what classes go to what states. Recently a bill has passed the senate for California learners to be able to place in CA (however no hospitals) but that won’t take place till maybe January. The clinicals are 4 days usually Monday-Friday 5:45am-5pm Wednesday day off. They’re pretty straight forward: assigned a nurse to follow debrief at the end of day and then answer 4 simple questions due in 24hrs. The instructor I had was actually the head of all DFC instructors and said this is the most “paperwork” you’ll do for DFC they understand we have other classes they want us to focus more on hands on. She was super awesome got to meet another instructor as well she was training learned a lot from them and they made a good point no matter where you’re placed just go with a positive attitude and make the most of it you’re already paying tuition to go there so don’t go there miserable 😂. I honestly had a lot of fun yes it wasn’t a hospital setting like I wanted but I still learned a lot and it was a really positive experience. Overall cost really depends on how many GEs you have done and if you’re able to test out of classes if you’re an LVN. Plus if you qualify for FASFA. I will say even what I’m estimating for clinicals I still will be paying way less than if I was to go to a school in CA. I work NOCs weekends and it really is important to organize and plan your days to get it done. It’s all doable but you will need to make sacrifices. Hope this helps! ☺️

Hi love, I’m a CA learner 1) I’ve had to go to Colorado, Idaho, and Pennsylvania. This upcoming semester is going to be my fourth time traveling for school, who knows where they’ll send me! 2) I know how to travel on a budget, I don’t mind getting cheaper flights and accommodations to save $$. I’ve been able to travel for around $1-1.5k each semester 3) so we start traveling I think at around week 6 of each semester I believe. I’ve personally never been one of the first round of learners to travel, and I’ve gotten notified at around week 2-4 of the semester, so I’ve always had plenty of time to plan ahead 4) we do mostly SNF’s. Prof will pair you up with either a CNA or a nurse depending on availability and you’ll basically just shadow them for the day. Everywhere I’ve gone, everyone’s always been friendly, but I know that’s not the case for everyone.

So helpful, you've answered some of my questions in the past, and I decided to enroll. I have zero medical background but a BA in business. I was scheduled to start 9/1 but just moved it back to 1/1. I'm wrapping up all the pre-reqs now at University of Phoenix so I'll be ready to jump in straight to nursing classes. I'll have 6 semesters and 3 classes a semester. How many hours a week are you spending on school now?

congrats!! yeah totally agree with finishing prereqs elsewhere and I spend all the time I have on school lol literally! I work a regular mon-fri recently I've been waking up at 5am and do homework until 7am then I'm off at 5pm and do more hw until midnight or 1am. Weekends is where I get the bulk of the reading and assignments completed! I hope this helps and good luck!!

How long is the program taking in account your transfer credits? Online I saw it’s 32 months is it shorter when you transfer in credits?

Hi! Yes it all depends on how much of the prerequisites and GE classes you’ve completed to obtain the bachelors portion of the program. With me the program is 20 months

Please are the classes on line or you have to attend in person?

Hi! They’re online and you have to attend clinicals which are out of state usually once a semester for a week and then preceptorship that’s 3-4 weeks long in person out of state
