I don't know whether you catch up with comments on your months old videos Gaynor, but I found this one so inspiring and informative (as they all are actually) that I just had to thank you and cheer for you. I'll have to go back through it again and make notes. I loved watching all your approaches to the sunflowers, and I especially liked your comment at the end - that you know how to do certain stuff in drawing but you want to keep pushing yourself to explore. This is a good prompt for me, and very hard to do, but worthwhile. Your videos have inspired me to get going with my art again, do something daily, do warm up painting etc...... and try out some of the things I see you do. Thanks so much and all the best for 2024 🎉❤

My dear Gaynor, You have brought back to mind the loveliest memory from 40 some odd yrs ago. When I was about 18, my Aunt, who was a painter and Uncle, took me on a "date" to a theatre in Atlanta GA to see a one man play starring Leonard Nemoy called "Vincent". The play was from Theo's perspective of his brother and based on the letters you were reading. Leonard Nemoy was mesmerizing. It was a very cool experience. Googling it now, there is a video of the play you might be able to find. Thanks for sharing your process and inspiration!

I have nigella envy! I absolutely love their pods but I have had limited success in growing them. I have only harvested skimpy little bunches to dry. I enjoyed watching you play with the sunflowers, the results were stunning. I live in a rural area and a large estate down the road a bit has a section of their field planted with sunflowers. They always make me smile... and drive a little slower when I pass by.

Have you tried using the seeds from the dried pods in your garden ? I randomly shake them about and bingo....they come up ! Our soil isn't great and I know how you feel when certain plants just won't grow well 🥰

In this video from last year when you are painting sunflowers, and talking about VanGogh's letters, it is so lovely in the last "scene" to see the yellow of the painting to your left, your yellow top, the yellow background of one of the charcoal drawings of a sunflower, the yellow tinged shrub through the window, and of course the deep yellow of the sunflowers you were painting was in my mind too. Even the tape in the foreground was a lovely deep yellow! Your process is so free and loose, and your outcome is always so charming. I keep wondering how long it will take me to ever get to a stage where I can create anything so lovely of my own! Sighing enviously in Canada... 🙂 (Even this smile is yellow! LOL.)

Thankyou Gaynor - thoroughly enjoyed watching you ‘engage’ with sunflowers. Gaynor I love your process and freedom that you have with your art. You have inspired me as a newbie on my creative journey. Beginning with such nervous trepidation in my sketchbook, to being brave and just giving it a go. Starting out with water soluble medium, I’m now seriously considering acrylics based on watching you work. Love mixed media! Your perseverance and honest process is wonderful and so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your artistic life with us. Really look forward to your videos and the pieces you begin and the ones you return to. It just goes to show you can’t rush the creative flow, it just happens. Thank you so much 😊 🙏🏻🙂

Oh dear. “Don’t let things just languish about”. Hmm. I’ve had the neocolours for about 15 years and never used them, last year I was in London in an art shop and phoned my son in South Africa to tell him about a product I’d seen (he’s a graphic designer) and he said “Mum, don’t buy any more, between us we have more than enough art materials”. And so you proved him right! I was saving your video for tonight when himself goes off to play music but the title of this week’s video was so enticing, the rest of your video I’m saving to watch later. You’re so inspiring, especially as it’s never occurred to me to look at the back of sunflowers. We are so lucky to get your video every week, Wednesdays seem to last forever knowing there will be a new video the next day.

@@gaynorpattle Hi Gaynor. I roll out paint, usually black, paynes grey or graphite, place flowers, then press light weight paper like newsprint weight, then pick up remaining paint pressing with thin tissue. Lift flowers/or leaves, let paint dry (about 5 min or so) whilst cleaning plate edges. Then roll with lighter color and pull print. I often pull final with cardstock, which is a great weight. Although u also can pull final with rice paper, or printing paper. Then when final print is dry, sometimes I go in and color in the clover flower (or daffodil) with color. Or embellish with posca pens. Cheers!

So, I take up initial paint with usually two types of papers, to get all paint surrounding clovers, then remove clover, let dry and roll with lighter color (not too thick) then pull.

Hello Jody in Arkansas, Lovely to hear from you. Most of my necklaces are really old !! Things I had put away now seem fashionable. I haven't bought anything in ages because I have so much collected up over the years...unworn ! Have a google on short statement necklaces. The heart on my plain link necklace was a gift from my late father, I like to adapt things....a bit like the art, always experimenting ! 🥰

Hi Shirley, no, I've never thought to gesso the sheets but I don't see why you couldn't.

You almost lost me in the beginning telling of your cleaning efforts in your home. Too housewifey for my taste. I did scroll on and must say I do like your execution of flowers to an abstract form. Thanks.
