SEMI-HYDRO | HOW TO FLUSH YOUR LECA IN A POT WITH NO DRAINAGE HOLES
I've had a few questions with regards to how I care for my plants in semi-hydro and how I flush them. It's incredibly important to flush your plants if they are in inorganic substrates as there will be a build up of minerals and nutrients. There are other ways to reduce nutrient build up but that will be another video for another time.
I hope you guys enjoy videos like this! If you do please subscribe.

I’ve been looking for days trying to figure out if I could just flush my pumice like this in an enclosed container. Finally I found you! Thank you.

A tip to easily dump your vessel without clogging your sink lol…. Just put a little square cut piece of mesh over the drain or use a strainer if you can fine one with fine enough drainage to catch the medium.

Hi. I just found your Chanel. I am excited to see this video. I have just started to change my plants to leca and MAB Grow. I think I could use MAB Grow in the way you have in this video. I look forward to checking out the rest of your videos

Hi thanks for this video. How do you fertilize your plants in semi hydro? What fertilizer do you use?

This is a great idea to have a mix of substrates. What do you about the roots getting green. My agalonema leaves are getting brown spots and the roots are green. What should i do
@DamianPerry25
@DamianPerry25 9 ай бұрын
Mmm 🤔 It seems to me that the browning of your leaves may be due to burning from too much fertilizer, perhaps you should rinse your substrate or change it and moderate or lower the dose of fertilizer

Same as first comment....I think I stumbled upon some gold here. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I didn't realize semi hydro was a thing for aroids. So...now I'm curious are all of the species fairly compatible with this method? I just ran upon someone complaining about a certain philodendron being susceptible to root rot....you'd think this would be the answer to that to, right?

Welcome!! ❤️ I use semi-hydro for 80% of my plants. Specifically for plants that are new imports. My Thai Constellation was going through cycles of root rot until I put it in semi-hydro. I prefer using this method for finicky plants cause you can really see it's progress. If the plant is currently going through root rot right now and you want to convert it - be sure to rinse and clean it as best as you can and check on it frequently because the plant will go through stages of losing its soil roots to grow water roots.

@@leafletco Hey thanks for responding and providing even more details! So I'm guessing that going through the process of moving a plant from traditional soil to semi-hydro will bring up new questions when they are losing their "soil" roots. For example if you have healthy roots to start....when the soil type roots start to die back....you are kind of introducing root rot in a way....or it could appear that way at first, right? Now I have even more questions lol....what about aroids in traditional "full" hydroponics??????

Hi so I am going to start putting plants in glass jars with leca and perlite. I was wondering do you still keep the water to 1/3 level if you were to have a water reservoir or do you just water until you see some condensation against the sides of the glass? I am just worried to put them in there and then drown the roots and get root rot lol. I am trying to figure out how you know how much water to put in with no drainage holes.
@leafletco
@leafletco Жыл бұрын
Once your plant has developed water roots it should be fine and you won’t have root rot. But to be on the safe side I would recommend allowing for more leca/perlite for the water reservoir and ensure your plant sits higher so that it can develop the water roots. I will try to make a video on this for ya!

@@leafletco so if im water propping it or cut off an air node do you think it would root faster if i put it in leca and perlite? I have a strawberry shake and syngonium albo I wanted to do this with.
