Here in the Netherlands, these guns were quite easy to buy in the 1980s. These had of course been modified so that they could not fire fully automatically. they weren't really expensive.
@PickleTime4206 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, the Dutch were big rivals of the Portuguese, they gave them probably as much grief as the Spaniards, I'm talking about a time back in the 1500-1700s though.
@jigrodrigues6 жыл бұрын
True.
@jonc29145 жыл бұрын
Only because during that time Portugal was ruled by Spain so their enemies became Portugal’s problem.
@STEALTH1DAN4 жыл бұрын
Actually put of the rivalry was because of the south American territories aka Brazil. It isn't by chance that north of Brazil, is Suriname, previously a Dutch colony, and they did try at least 3 times to go south a day in fact controlled some parts of northern Brazil for a few years. With the "help" of Spanish troops we, managed to kick them out. The price(part) of this was Olivença. Not even most Portuguese people know this
@uwotmatte75773 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't compare them to the Spanish though. Even the British were bigger rivals and they re the oldest allies simultaneously. They were more like a rock in a shoe.
@rrs_133 жыл бұрын
Incorrect fact. The Dutch liked the portuguese very much, but were always very pragmatic. Under the dynastic union when Spain fucked every portuguese diplomatic relation, the Dutch treated the portuguese as free game. After the portuguese secession from the Union, given that the spanish are the dutch most hated, and the spanish resented Portugal, relations kind of went back to normal (although the dutch never recovered from the bitterness of several humiliating defeats trying to seize portuguese assets in the east and west indies).

In the fallout universe they ran out of oil alot faster then real life, so things like plastics weren't used often. I also think it's a post-war reproduction.
@Jixijenga6 жыл бұрын
ZombieM0ses it's post-war made for one, however as it's been said already the Fallout universe has a peak oil crisis well before the Great War so polymers are kinda difficult. Though FO4 kind of shits all over everything with that, we see consumer plastics everywhere so who knows how bad it was. (I realize FO4 is utter shit, but canon is canon so F:NV lore gets retconned regardless of the ramifications)

Hi Ian, good to see you putting out amazing quality content as allways. I'm really really interested in this particular style of firearms, during the Cold War era. My dad was in the millitary in the 70's in the Portuguese Air Force as a logistics operator and also was a truck driver that did a lot of work in ressuplying the troops in mainlaind Portugal but also for sending stuff to the African colonies (Angola, Mozambique, Guiné-Bissau). He actually ended service a bit before the 25th of April 1974 Carnation Revolution coup d'etat that brought down the Estado Novo (New State) totalitarian right wing/fascist dictatorship here in Portugal wich basicly put the stop on the Portuguese Colonial War. He's an avid hunter and really into firearms but he's in his mid 60's and isn't very school educated so he understands preety much nothing of English. When I come home to my parents I often find him watching English or German speaking videos of guns, war footage or hunting videos but he doesnt understand any of it. Is there any way for you, using YT, to enable subtitles in other languages, especially Portuguese, so I can give him a present and introduce him to your videos? He would be preety happy. He's got a semiauto shotgun (with a 2 round magazine 'cuz European style gun laws), a break action shotgun and a Savage Arms Axis 30.06 that he uses for hunting and he's gonna get Browning Maral 30.06 straight pull bolt action rifle with a 10 round magazine (wich is a burocratic and expensive thing to do). I'm a hunter myself but I went with him and my godfather and some of their friends a lot of times. They like rabit/hare/bird hunting but especially boar hunting with our dogs. I'm a target/range shooter myself and plan to upgrade my license when I get the income saved and know that my dad is gonna give me his guns when he sadly passes away and I'm gonna keep, maintain and treasure them. Anyways, keep up God's work, Gun Jesus. "I am the way and the light except ocassionaly the light is muzzle flash."

I remember the Sendra Corp selling these receivers at the Ohio gun collectors show back in the 1980’s. I believe they were about $250. Later on Sendra got in trouble and went out of business. They re-appeared to sell military parts under the Nesard name, but no receivers due to the trouble they were in. They made top quality receivers for AR-10’s and AR-15’s. Some had a rather strange dark purple hue to them.

I have wanted one of these since my days in the US Army, that began in 1970, so for a very long time. I had a lot of faith in the 5.56 round, we used them in Vietnam, and they were good for jungle warfare, you could carry a lot of ammo, very important over there, and you had a fairly controllable full auto when it was time to shit and git. That said, I am and have always been an avid deer hunter, and I know that the 5.56 is marginable when it comes to knock down power of a deer size animal (IE us) A .308 is a much better round for deer hunting thus is a better round when it comes to taking down a human. I no longer even own a deer rifle because I a no longer able to hunt, getting to old and am disabled, but I still own a home and need something to defend it. All I have any more is my old .45 ACP M1911A1 but that should do if I am in need of a firearm. That said, an AR10 in the corner would be nice.

Ian, gotta correct you on the whole carry handle myth. It _was_ designed from the beginning as a carry handle. If you look at the ArmaLite X-03 prototype, you will find that it had a carry handle, but no trigger style charger. It was side charging. The X-03 preceded all versions of the AR-10, thus the carry handle was always meant as a carry handle, and only protected the trigger style charger by incidence when it was later added.
