Peterbilt 589 - Bunk Heater Install "HOW TO"

I just bought a 589 and my local mechanic in Ohio became a dealer for Green APU and the price was much cheaper than Thermo King so I told them to put on and I think it is a good quality but... What I didn't know is that in order to provide heat, the unit has to be permanently on since the heat works with the coolant heater, so this weekend I decided to get a bunk heater installed so I don't have to run the APU engine all night when it is not too Cold. In other words if you're thinking of getting a Green APU you might have to consider combining it with a bunk heater. Great video, thanks

I've used those a bunch, but now prefer a full-on apu unit. Because just as a driver needs heat, ac in the summer makes a comfy sleep.

Espar has gotten fancy with the new control panel. It would be nice if Espar could do AC also.

Me being from the north east we always install the one that also heat the antifreeze at the same time you just set the temperature at night you don’t have to worry about a block heater being plugged in it could be -10° in your in your Engine temperature or antifreeze temperature will be 100° very nice and convenient. No cold Starting problems and obviously doesn’t take a long time for everything to warm Rado

@ ESPAR POLAR WEBASTO AND HEATSO all have models that do Both I would do most of my driving at night park the truck during the day just set the bunk temperature and when I came in around midnight, it would fire right up because the engine is at 100° in the Sleeper is warm and no snow on the truck and no warm-up time it’s just worth the extra money. Make sure you put extra ball valves on waterlines going to the engine just in case because you just never know.

Brand new 589 and the first time I use the Espar, it says “no flame detected “ nothing is blocking it, just doesn’t work. Back to Peterbilt it goes
