I would rather listen to Harry and Senator Murphy all day than five minutes of Trump and the like. Still do not know why anyone thought Trump was for them. Agree people are distant from each other but I don’t feel Democrats made it worse. Thanks for the talk as always.

I blame disinformation. Fox news specifically (because it's so mainstream and appears so legitimate). People ingest the garbage believing it's reality without questioning it.

The Dems alienated their base: working class and poor Americans, starting in the 90s. Bernie Sanders' recent criticism is really on point.

@@Silentpartner70 In terms of pro-Trump, pro-Russian, pro-authoritarian, pro-racism anti-democratic disinformation and propaganda lies, no I would not consider MSNBC guilty of that. Some incompetence and hyperbole here and there, yes. But if you're a Trump supporter and fox news watcher, I don't expect you to comprehend that.

@@100ampsAs someone who has never liked Trump but nonetheless voted for him, maybe this college educated nurse who lives in a blue state, does not watch FOX and does not have Putin’s # in my contacts can share some insight with you. A huge reason why ppl moved away from the democrat party (I should know, I used to be one) is because of the arrogant and patronizing attitudes of ppl exactly like you. Blaming “disinformation” is plain lazy and just means never having to take any responsibility for why Trump won, and the fact that you can’t admit that MSNBC is just the flip side of FOX makes me think that you might actually be the misinformed one. I have a healthy diet of independent media from all sides, which is why I subscribe to this channel and also like senator Murphy very much. Anyway, keep believing that everyone who voted for Trump did so because they’re just dumb and racist. It’s worked out so well for you.👍

My Senator ! I am grateful for Chris Murphy he is empathetic, sincere, and KIND. But don't get the wrong impression he IS A WARRIOR! This IS a good man from interaction with his office he does what he says, and cares about everyday people's problems. More Sen. Murphy please! I want to see him on an INTERNATIONAL stage . We the people need to protest when necessary which may be a lot.

Where was / is the push back against closing polling stations in swing States before the elections, decimating Voter turnout? What concerns us deeply is the millions of votes that have been thrown out to suppress Voters in vote challenges in the swing States. ⁉️ How is it that this is not a top priority to rectify?

All of Joe Biden's accomplishments these past four years will be forgotten by history. Joe Biden will instead go down in history as the chump who surrendered democracy to an insurrection. Ironically, Biden has the power and the authority under the law to put an end to this nightmare... Trump has already, no doubt, prepared an executive order to arrest anyone who criticizes him.

We need a New Deal. The New Deal was what drove the middle class and all the opportunities it brought. It propelled society forward into home ownership. Today, we feel society slipping backwards with more homelessness, addiction, and violence than ever. The government fails to get people to "feel" that it is there for them. People lose hope and the Dream. That is part of the American spiritual loss.

Thank you for the thoughtful conversation. Especially the mention of Agency. I feel like "agency" is key. And the key to agency in a capitalist economy is money. 50% of Americans have $400 or less in their savings. Aging without adequate healthcare feels like a constant disheartening battle with one the worst industries in the us, insurance. I have 'full' coverage and little access. No one can afford a social life that's not at church. Id like to take an art class but there is no money. The ways for people to interact more often than not cost money and are increasingly closed off to average Americans, who don't attend church.

I think the bleak view on the economy comes mostly from the fact that Senator Sanders is the only public figure that is addressing the wealth gap. I think its mostly an unconscious awareness but that doesn't make it any less potent. Capitalism isn't helpful in this way because our system is constantly selling things to people that a greater percentage of the electorate cannot afford. Most people of means seem blind to this, but that lack of awareness wont protect our institutions.

Trump “talking about borders” or wages or religious faith comes not so much from him personally but elements in his circle of influencers and message makers. To that degree they were prescient in striking at an underlying dissatisfaction or even lifestyle desperation in parts of the voting public. Trump had been a Democrat but he cleverly switched over to the GOP knowing that that segment was far easier to manipulate and to dissolution via rhetoric.

Extremely insightful. Thinking about this in terms of how many Americans are feeling a loss of control in their lives for a variety of reasons. And how they are looking for a person who would give them that sense of control back. Not saying that's specifically the reason for this election's result, but damn if it's one we really need to have more discussion about. Because it's poignant in a time where we face a lot of changes, and changes are not easy to face and adapt to when they come quickly. And to the rest of this: Bernie Sanders. I said it. He has argued this for decades, long before I was even born. The problems being described have already been addressed and given an advocate in the form of another senator from the state of Vermont. We didn't want him then, and seemingly still don't want him now. I don't think neoliberalism is dead, to disagree.

Would like more thoughts on what legislators should legislate; it sounded like he wants to legislate on what the electorate is complaining about in their personal world. That should be a local government concern more that a federal one. Should the president call the local dairy and tell them to lower their prices to lower the inflation? Federal government doesn't have a lot of tools to work on inflation.
