Sena 50C Long Term Review. Pros and Cons. I tell you if I would buy it again!

i had the sena 10c that some people were ranting and raving about. and I wanted it for the dash cam part so if i was in a wreck id have the footage, tag number car color or what ever i needed to show i was not at fault. the dam thing would just stop recording on its own and you would have to power down to get it to start working again. it was a huge pain so i got back on here again to see if there was anything new for a all in one set up and found a few you tubers were pushing the 50c. so i got excited how ever no one i seen told the truth about the system and how it is still pretty much crap. thanks for your video. saved me 600 bucks.

Interesting review. I have the exact Sena 50c as you. I have around 200+ motorcycle videos uploaded to my KZbin channel using this same model as yours. I have never experienced two issues you brought up in your review: 1.) whenever i go thru, say...a tunnel, it adjusts the lighting to the inner darkness of the tunnel, so that, when exiting the tunnel the light is saturated for a a second or two (as it is with all video cameras), however, it always re-adjusts the lighting so that it is not saturated...and keep in mind this is coming out of a very dark tunnel into direct sunlight; it only takes a second or two; 2.) Also, I have never experienced any issues with voice recording. in fact, it's spot on 100% of the time. There's never been any issue with conversations with my kid and I who also rides with me and uses a Sena 10c Evo. I'm confused as to why this might be happening with you...I wonder if it's a software/firmware update that's needed? Not sure. I don't know enough, but I have also owned two other Sena 10c Evo's and never experienced it with them either. In fact my kid uses a Sena 10c Evo, and I use the 50C (i don't want to upgrade his to a 50c like mine because he's only 5yrs old and I'm afraid he will drop and break the camera. I'll include a link to my videos and you can hear our conversations throughout the videos. Just keep in mind that he's only 5yrs old, and english is not his first language. Summary for me: Pros: 1. Less weight & stuff on the helmet (less price&wires&stress on the neck) 2. Easily records mesh conversations in video (good when ride together and want to record it all) 3. (Not from video) easy control of video - alway know if its recording or not, video tagging for accidents and interesting things on the road (more easy to find video, less work on editing) Cons: 1. Reliability: can just don’t record it, and you lose the footage (or have to re-do it) (i guess this happens once in how many times?) 2. Video quality bad in low-light (if drive at evening/night and want to record for youtube) (i guess its enough in case of accidents for proof) Also, i hope that audio quality is good, which i ppl say is more important for KZbin vlogging then video. So i’m still thinking of whether just buy 50C and go long travel, OR buy gopro11 + microphone + attach all this stuff to my helmet and learn how to use it…

Thanks for this review. All the Cons outweigh the Pros. I'm passing due to all the Cons. I want something g that will work smoothly without the annoying issues you mentioned. Thanks again. I'll stick with my GoPro 11 Mini and the Sena SRL.

I was hovering over the BUY button until I saw this video. I LOVE the idea, but your video made me rethink this. Thank you. I, like @Ilihiafarris, would prefer to have something a lot smoother of use and 4k. Furthermore I was in Germany for three years. LOVED every minute of it. I wish I had my bike there. Just found your channel! Do you have any idea how long the battery will last if using the intercom and recording video. We ride 2up and need to record both our voices to the video. I was usimg earbuds plugged into my 20s evo which worked great and could record both the Mrs and my voice but switched helmets and now i can't use earbuds with it. We are looking for a good, reliable way to record both of us. Thanks for a great review!

I’m not sure. A long time. Battery life is good. The Cardo now records your intercom conversation. So it would be really easy to sync it with a GoPro video. In my opinion that would be far better than using Sena.

After being a long time sena owner/customer I have given them the flick and gone over to Cardo. Cardo don't have a unit like the 50C but my GoPro Hero 11 is way way better. Good bye sena and thanks for all the fish!!! BTW a very good review and a BIG thumbs up.

Recently purchased a Sena 50c, mainly for a single voice control system. My ongoing issue is that I can not get the voice commands to work, not even once! The microphone works, it's firmware is up to date, Siri works via the microphone, music plays, photo and video will work if I manually push a button but Hey or Hello Sena voice commands...never. Both apps are on my phone and I have gone through the settings many times and even started one by one elimination checks; no change. Advice on voice command fixes are requested. Good Rides

I have a 10C Pro, and i have never had the issues you spoke of. My only complaint is battery life. I think iget about an hour of video recording.

Great review, thank you. You haven't mentioned the camera for photos only, not a video - which is my use case. I like taking pictures, which at the moment is taking glove off, take the phone out, unlock and take a picture. How convenient are the still camera features and the photo quality - would you recommend 50C for this? Thank you dear Sir!

I don’t know that I’ve paid attention to the picture quality. I’d imagine decent. The action of taking a photo is easy. One button, glove stays on.

Is it easy to control GoPro video recording not seeing the screen? How do you know if its recording or not? Does it have option to loop-record like Insta360 x3, when you press stop button it saves last 1minute of video ?

They are very similar, this should have a better camera, and the voice conversation recording is new I believe.

I wish I would have watched this video before I bought the 50c....I totally agree the software is unstable very buggy. Sena needs to get some engineers and fix the sw....I have a feeling I'll be using it for phone calls only

The device doesn’t latch to the base it can easily come off. A person has to make sure the clasp on the wire is latched if not that thing could come off. I’m surprised you didn’t mention that.

@@insidemyhelmetofficial I have a couple of times the clasp kept it from getting lost but if you take a spill on your bike it’ll be gone. It has no latch luck is the only thing that keeps it on.

Always possible. Unfortunately many of the same issues exist in my 50S. So I tend to think it’s a SENA issue overall.

Man that is crap quality all around. A gopro3 with external mic could have better video and audio for $50

You’re right. The problem with gopro is the external mic. It’s annoying having all that strapped to the helmet. Someday gopro will get smart and make a helmet cam with mic attachment that makes sense.
