Sena SMH 10 Bluetooth headset long term review, in this review I talk about my SMH10 sena, I absolutely love this device! I use it all the time while riding my motorcycle and has worked very well over the years!

I know Sena will not claim their products are waterproof, but...I have about 40,000 miles riding using the SMH10, 20S, 20S Evo. The first was in a decent rain, the last two were far worse. The 20S was used for about 1,000 miles from Key West to New Orleans and it rained the entire time thanks to Tropical Storm Cindy. It never missed a beat, and never had an issue. The rain penetrated every OTHER piece of gear I had that was supposed to be waterproof, but the Sena stuff never stopped working. With the 20S Evo it was a heavy downpour rain for several hours. Same result as the 20S. I'd trust that stuff until I'm proven otherwise.

My Sena 20S 'came up missing'. I haven't replaced it yet. Have you tried the 30K yet? I haven't decided what to replace it with yet.

Would you rather try a 20S? I can find a better price in a dual pack but never get that same good price in a single. I don't have a need for a second one. My friends all have them already. It almost costs me less to buy a dual pack than it does a single. I paid $182 for the first one so I don't want to now pay more for the same thing.

Bell makes a 3/4 helmet with a cut out and attachment specifically designed to work with the SMH10. Pretty cool pairing. The helmet is called a Mag 9.

Good review Mate, I have the poor mans one, the BT S2. works well, however I have heard very good reports regarding the Sena from my riding buddies.

Yeah I did a lot of reading before I bought this one, I wanted to make sure I got something that I knew would last. That said there's always cheaper products to be found that have the same tech. The difference is you're not paying for the brand..

own it. we had 5 people with them and when we were charging them after 8 hours of riding, we lost track of whose was whose, so when we all hooked up the next day, it was completely randowm who we were already synced too - and different from the previous day. Sure made things interesting. I only use it for music and GPS these days, I've only synced with a fellow rider twice this year. Depending on the ride and who you are with, it's nice to not have someone jump on your channel during one of your fave tracks. After many years of use, the mic connection rendered the whole base unit useless for talking with others, and music would sometimes drop out. I bought a new base unit with various mic options (that you referred to in your review) and all issues have been resolved. I too would recommend this. The jog dial is quite easy to use. I use ear plugs all the time and just turn up the volume a bit. Looking forward to your international travel!

Can you hear the music and GPS OK with the ear plugs fitted? I bought a cheap one (Chinese) worked fine but the speakers were useless! I just want to use it for the music and the GPS not linked to other rider(s)

For me it's been okay, it depends how much sound your ear plugs block out. If you're talking about ear plugs with build in speakers (monitors), they work really well.

Paul Lee i ride a 250 ninja and sound is ok with 25db plugs and music turned up - not much clean air around helmet! On my W650 (bonneville ripoff) air is cleaner and sound is much better. I tried a friends sprint gt with a massive eagle screen fitted and found myself turning the volume down due to the cone of silence it created. Outside of a big windscreen, a quiet helmet makes a big impact, my shoei qwest/tzx is reasonably good. I pretty much use mine solely for music and gps. I imagine a chinese cheapy would be ok behind a good sized screen.... or in a car LOL

Hmm interesting. Thanks for a nice simple not too techy review. Just your opinion on the product. I liked that. I have never even considered something like this but I can see the benefits. Even so I doubt I'll try one as I'm a complete dinosaur when it comes to anything electrical or techy. About the most I can and want to have to deal with is my mobile phone,haha! On friends advice, to supposedly suit my needs I bought an all singing and dancing super smart TV. Its supposed to be the dogs bollocks. I'm sure it is. But can I get it set up for the internet and everything else its supposed to be capable of? Can I bollocks!! So it just gets used a tv,haha! Like I said,I'm a dinosaur. Hope you get a chance to do some riding and filming in Holland. Take it easy,mate. Cheers

It was a rjays helmet full face, but you can attach it to any helmet..

How do you get the volume to work, I can start and stop music but no volume control.

The wheel that you can push on acts as a volume dial, but first turn up the volume of yout phone, then the volume of the Sena. They have their own volumes.. (sometimes you "media" volume is also low on your phone, so make sure you have all volumes up before using the wheel on the Sena, hope that helps

@@NamelessRiderz Something is wrong with the unit, I can get Siri to come up but the mic doesn't work nor does the sound.

@@marceaton3128 perhaps try to delete it in your iPhone and reconnect, also factory reset the Sena. (Make sure it's up to date firmware) I don't really know anything about iPhones so might have to Google it or contact Sena to get a replacement
