Great question! The R2 uses a Bluetooth intercom connection. The R2 EVO and R2X both use Mesh intercom connections. The R2X offers the extra feature of having Amazon Alexa Built-In. That means you can control your Alexa connected devices just by speaking through your helmet, not matter where you are!

I just purchased my new bicycle from Soulville. I have a fathead&in the market for a helmet. I love the designs&colours. Matte White&Matte Black, just like my Nissan Maxima SV. I love the lights, but I am very skeptical of the Brightness&size of the lights. Do they have turn signals, Do they light up when braking@stop sign intersections, etc. I would appreciate if Sena would comment on these critical issues.

Hi there, the lights are not turn signals they are geared for rider visibility with both lights illuminated simultaneously.

I've been using the R1 Evo's for a couple of years and love them. Other than looks, does the R2 Evo's bring anything new? Also, when are the MIPS helmets?

Hi there, Glad to hear you love your R1 EVOs! The main difference between the R1 EVO and R2 EVO will be the helmet design and ventilation, the Mesh system functions exactly the same and all of the EVO helmets are compatible. At this time, we do not have plans to launch a helmet with MIPS.

The main difference is the style and design - the technology inside of the R1EVO and R2 EVO is the same :).

I would love to have a helmet with which I can cycle and phone at the same time. But I am missing being able to signal as a must have feature signalling. Also shouldn't it be possible to have both technologies MESH and Bluetooth in the same helmet?

All of our EVO helmets can connect using Mesh intercom and use a Bluetooth connection to connect with your smartphone - so yes, they use both!

Quick question. Can I connect a R1 with the new R2 Evo via Bluetooth? I have two R1 and I want an R2 but I am afraid that I won’t be able to connect since the R2 has mesh intercom vs Bluetooth. In your video you said that they would also connect vie Bluetooth. Am I right? Did I hear it correctly?

Hi there, the R1 is not intercom compatible with the R2 EVO, however it is compatible with the R2. The 'EVO' indicates our Mesh Intercom platform where as the R1 and R2 run on our Bluetooth intercom platform.

@@senatechnologies thanks. Does the audio is louder on the R2 EVO? Also how does the Bluetooth pairing works? Is it easier and faster or is the same thing?

@@Makingdifference100 The audio is about the same but if you'd like it louder, make sure that the volume is set to it's maximum on your smartphone. Adjust and fine tune with the volume settings on your helmet. Mesh intercom is the fastest and easiest way to pair Sena smart helmets. Just press one button to turn it on, and the helmet will automatically seek out other helmets in the vicinity on the network!

Aside from the differences in intercom connections between the R2 and the R2 Evo version, what is the actual difference between the Bluetooth vs. the mesh connection? I’m aware that you can connect a lot more devices with the mesh system but is that the only difference?

Will it be possible to do firmware updates over the smartphone instead of over PC?

No because you have to have the file , where the firmware code lives. Now. With the phone it would take forever for the file to be sent to the helmet. The second issue would be bus driver to perform the installation on the helmet and the third issue would be dedicated network to fetch the file from the sena’s website.

@@Makingdifference100 I'd say the firmware for that functionality isn't that big and there are quite a lot of devices like fitness bands that do exactly that, receive firmware updates from the phone over Bluetooth. I also owned a Coros smart helmet that was able to receive firmware updates via the associated app, also over Bluetooth. So in general this is possible, the question remains whether Sena is inclined to implement this (or whether the Sena Firmware is indeed prohibitively large for this). Does anyone know the size of the firmware?

Great analysis. I see the problem. My apologies. I wish they could add this functionality as well as Google assistant instead of Amazon Alexis assistant. That would be cool even if you could use Síria for iPhones.

We had ours fully changed but didn’t use them for a couple months. The battery is now dead. Is that normal?

never store a battery fully charged. Always store at about 30% if you don't plan on using for a long while.

I have an R2 and a R2Evo can I Connect them together?

No. R2 (and R1) use a Bluetooth intercom network to connect to other helmets. While R2 EVO (and R1 EVO) use a Bluetooth connection to connect to a smartphone, they only use the Mesh network for the intercom function. Mesh is easier to use, faster to connect, and allows pairing a virtually unlimited number of riders (whereas Bluetooth allows a maximum of four).

No; unlike the R1 EVO the R2 or the R2 EVO do not have FM radio

No. FM radio is a feature that is no longer offered in they cycling helmets that feature integrated Sena technology.
