@@ash1550 Lawmakers have had 50 years to find a compromise on this issue. Work on reducing abortions by making birth control accessible and free to all. Pour money into programs to improve access to adoptions for people of all incomes, not just the wealthy. There's a massive waiting list of people wishing to adopt. Instead, the far right has resisted s3x education. They've opposed access to birth control and Plan B. They've made it more difficult for poor mothers to raise children. The far left has endorsed abortion access that's far more liberal than nearly every European country. They've allowed the increasingly radicalized Planned Parenthood to run a near monopoly on the abortion industry. The days of "safe, legal, and rare" are long gone. This clash was inevitable as each side became more radicalized.

Banning abortions is really helping states that allow abortions - here's why - abortions do cost money, so do hotels, restaurants, taxis, car rentals, etc. Women will travel to states that allow abortions and spend their money in that state and all that money goes to the states that allow abortions. Abortion was legal when the Constitution was written. "Abortion was not just legal-it was a safe, condoned, and practiced procedure in colonial America and common enough to appear in the legal and medical records of the period. Official abortion laws did not appear on the books in the United States until 1821, and abortion before quickening did not become illegal until the 1860s. If a woman living in New England in the 17th or 18th centuries wanted an abortion, no legal, social, or religious force would have stopped her." - Scarlet Letters: Getting the History of Abortion and Contraception Right Abortion was only illegal for 115 years. Currently only 20 some third world countries have laws against abortion. Why would the USA join third world countries? Outlawing abortions only leads to unsafe back alley abortions, unwanted children, filled orphanages, abused and neglected children, future citizens with mental health problems, and crime. The right to an abortion has always heavily and disproportionally affected women. But it is not 1973 anymore. Paternity tests were invented in the late 80's and became highly reliable in the 90's. When a woman decides to keep an unplanned pregnancy, the father is held somewhat financially responsible, even now, when she has the right to terminate. If she lacks that choice, will the father have an increased responsibility? As he is 50% responsible for a child's existence, will he have to compensate the mother more than before? For example, most mothers I know have taken jobs that allow them to be available to parent, though it is rare that the father in these unions have made any adjustment to employment. Could there be, in effect, alimony for unmarried co-parents? Could a primary parent sue for lost wages? I don't say this to singularly worry over the plight of the surprised father, nor is every pregnancy that ends in abortion the result of single and consensual sex. It simply seems nearsighted and outdated to think of abortion rights as solely a women's issue when a man cannot exclude himself any longer from equal responsibility.

Oh I see so as long as we can pass the buck to somebody else not those who protest the right to have an abortion but those who actually have to live in the moment then it's okay. Yeah the father, what about the stigma, what about the social implications, what about the shame that sometimes comes with pregnancy, you keep forgetting it's not you who's pregnant. It's someone else and you can't put yourself in their shoes not even for a second because you're incapable of that. And I think when you try to put yourself in their shoes you come from your value system, your social hierarchy your life experiences privileges and disadvantages where all different we all live in very different circumstances how could anyone take away a person's freedom, forget the right, their freedom to make this choice. We can't even protect the children that are born not here in this country and not anywhere else like in some parts of the desperate desperate places in the third world Africa Central America Asia Southeast Asia. You know what maybe is missing from your visual vocabulary is never having seen in person that level of poverty. That level of desperation.
