Senator Susan Collins Casts 9,000th Consecutive Vote, Extending Perfect Streak

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD), and Senator Angus King (I-ME) congratulate Senator Susan Collins prior to her 9,000th consecutive roll call vote in the United States Senate.
Senator Collins has not missed a single vote throughout her entire Senate service. Senator Collins’ first vote in the Senate was more than 27 years ago, on January 22, 1997, when she voted to confirm Madeleine Albright as Secretary of State.

I commend Senator Collins for her remarkable dedication to showing up to represent her constituents every day in the Senate, not without remarking how sad it is that it should be an almost singular record. That many senators deign to show up to do even the most basic of their duties is troubling. That there are no term limits which prevent almost 30 years without a change in leadership for constituents in Maine is also a sign we need term limits. With them we can also limit the entrenchment in politics of people who can be bought and deployed by special interests and those with deep pockets who like to place a thumb on the scales of justice to usurp the power of the American people.
