Thank you Senator Whitehouse. You are right based on the opinion of the vast majority of experts (climate scientists and economists). A cash-back carbon fee on fossil fuel production and imports is the most cost-effective and equitable way to rapidly reduce climate pollution. We can rebate US exporters to keep them competitive in the global market, and not rebate exporters of fossil fuels, but use that revenue for making the US economy more solvent and funding important government operations.

Everybody's rushing to AI, which is going to use a COLOSSAL amount of energy and send millions of Americans to the unemployment line. AI is going to need its own nuclear power plants, which is probably why Congress passed the ADVANCE act two days ago, even though studies have shown nuclear plants take too long to build and are too expensive to be a viable solution to our current crisis. Instead of building for more energy usage, Congress should be passing laws that regulate AI. For now, it shouldn't be for entertainment or pure profit-building purposes, but limited to essential uses such as national defense, advances in medicine, climate solutions and other purposes that secure the well-being of the American people. We are in a CO2 crisis. Part of the solution is opting to use manpower instead of energy intense machine power.

From the silence of most liberals, you'd think they agree with conservatives. Where is the War Against Climate Change? It's the biggest threat we, and all of humanity, faces. Where is the emergency declaration? Where is the massive campaign to conserve and drawdown for the homefront effort? Hell, most liberals don't even have a CO2 budget for their households. And any state or city controlled by Democrats should have CO2 budgets for every department. Scientists are in a race to find a solution. We need to conserve every bit of energy and greenhouse gas emissions to buy them time.

I have never had access to bank loans, due to corruption. I've had to build my house on a shoestring budget, cash bases, and personal knowledge of construction...by myself. My money has been used by banks , without my authorization, made thousands on it, I have had to pay for their poor oversight. many other costs of living essentials I've been forced to overpay as well, these are examples of known racketeering and extortion. Similar, and in addition to the points the honorable Sheldon Whitehouse points out. Thank you for your service.

Fortunately, we have a basement, but my aunt is 84, and her health is not good. I can not understand how Republicans can ignore the rising waters, temperatures, horrible weather and all the deaths and suffering it’s currently causing, but what is to come. All for money and stockholders. I guess the Mars evacuation is real, at least for the wealthy and powerful, while the rest of us will be left w pollution of all sorts, unsafe food and water, no regulation of literally everything we put in and on our bodies, and if that doesn’t destroy us and the planet, climate change surely will. Keep on confronting these narcissistic deniers, form coalitions and educate the public, and maybe you will be one of the true leaders to save us all!

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, It is imperative to create a film illustrating the severe consequences our planet will face due to climate change. We are looking at a future with severe water and food shortages, electricity blackouts, and a scarcity of essential healthcare products including needed drugs. Many will suffer, facing starvation, heatstroke, and the collapse of critical medical systems as power outages become frequent. These dire conditions may lead to social unrest, with people feeling abandoned by those in power. The frustration and desperation could potentially lead to violence, as citizens hold lawmakers responsible for the situation. Historically, U.S. lawmakers have prioritized industry and business over the needs of the people, providing only the bare necessities. This negligence is bound to backfire as the public realizes the extent to which their well-being and the planet's health have been ignored. The consequences will be severe, and there will be a strong public backlash. Lawmakers will find it difficult to face their constituents, as trust has been eroded. They may even face a time they have to hide from the people. This is a critical moment: it is time for those in power to act decisively in favor of the planet and its people, or they will face the repercussions of their inaction. You, along with your colleagues will have a lot of enemies and even if you left politics now it would not save you from the backlash.

Coal-fired power plants in China generate over half of the world's coal-fired power and a significant portion of China's electricity. In 2023, coal accounted for 39.9% of China's electricity supply, while non-fossil fuels like nuclear and renewables accounted for 53.9%. However, China is responsible for 95% of new coal power construction in 2023, with 70.2 GW of new construction underway, which is 19 times more than the rest of the world. As of August 29, 2023, China has 243 GW of new coal power approved or under construction

@MrVTBO4 ай бұрын
Every time people celebrate cheap gas, I die inside a bit. Cheap gas promotes gas guzzling vehicles. Gas should be priced at its cost to the environment. Then all the sudden, more people would want electric or fuel-efficient vehicles, opt for public transportation (which should be free for the time being), organize a carpool, move closer to their job or even consider biking to work.

He literally carved out unleaded gasoline. Our gas purchases wouldn't be affected if we engaged the carbon tax under what he discussed. Which is why it's ridiculous that employers are insisting people return to working from the office, when they can just as easily get the work done at home. Commercial real estate is an insidious business in the United States. Time to start converting those buildings for residential use or indoor farming use (cause the outdoor farms are going to be less and less reliable).
@valoriethechemist4 ай бұрын
@@MrVTBO very ridiculous that we're emphasizing unnecessary commutes... we should very much be thinking about major reductions in that regard as possible and carbon pricing would specifically help incentivize such changes, even without impacting commuting with carbon taxing (what Sheldon literally was discussing) we could use that revenue to help reduce the individual burden and ensure the most devastating impacts from the most severe polluters is at least paid toward those effected.
