Great video Tim, thank you! My iPad could initially only received signals from Logic, but not send them. In my case, I fixed this in Logic by selecting Logic Pro -> Control Surfaces -> Rebuild Defaults.

Hi Tim. Your videos have been incredibly helpful. I'm wondering if there is a way to make volume and/or send faders that only effect the selected track?
@TimCorpus

Yes, you would have to set up the message so that it corresponds only to the track you want. Are you trying that with OSC or MIDI?

This was super helpful mate. That /1 naming hiccup would have stumped me for eternity. Could you please do a tutorial on how to set up faders to control cc messages in Logic? I’m a composer too and I want to set up three faders to control dynamics, expression, and vibrato, while working with vsts.

Glad it was helpful! You should be able to do that with MIDI learn in Logic ya? Are you using Kontakt?
@cabijista1
@cabijista1 2 жыл бұрын
@@TimCorpus I do of course use Kontakt for some instruments, as well as different samplers for EastWest HollyWood Orchestra, SpitFire, etc, and various physical modeling vsts from SWAM and the like. I can see how I could assign ccs via midi learn in Kontakt, but what I’m really interested in doing is setting up faders in TouchOSC to control cc values on any selected track, much like you can do with a physical midi keyboards faders. That way it should work across the board on any and all vsts.

Gotcha. So have you tried this template that I covered in this video? Or are you looking for something else? kzbin.info/www/bejne/nISxdnSZqrN0ipY

@@TimCorpus yes I saw that one. But unless I’m mistaken there is nothing in the logic pad template which is setup to control CC’s 1 (modulation/ often dynamics) CC 11 (expression) and CC 20 (often vibrato). Or did I miss something?
@TimCorpus
@TimCorpus 2 жыл бұрын
@@cabijista1 Correct, nothing is setup in that template for MIDI CC specifically. However, you could use some of the OSC set up in that as a model for creating new OSC messages from Logic to your tOSC template if you needed an example. What I do to control expression and dynamics is shown in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2G0f6GJd9OpY7c So build your faders or XY in tOSC then add the basic MIDI CC you mentioned. If you are using different MIDI channels on each track and you need to control those CC as well, what you could do is create buttons in your tOSC template to change the MIDI PC. That's a little more complicated, but very doable. I'll add this to my list to show how to create in a future video.

Hey Tim! I want to ask if it's possible to create new controls with different OSC messages? Right now the only way I find it works is copy-pasting existing ones and modifying them, but if I create a new one using te "+" button it just wont work. Thank you in advance!
@TimCorpus

Hey 👋! Not sure if I understand the question. You want new objects with different OSC messages? You should be able to change the message on subsequent objects. Or do you want multiple messages one object?

@@TimCorpus like are we “stucked” to use copy-paste existing assignments to add our owns on logic? As using + button and configuring a new one just won’t work

Hello Tim, Thanks again for your clear explanation. After i changed the patern config in reaper from "default" to "logicpad" i could do everything you explained in the movie. Now i have a million dollar question: I'm looking in the "LogicPad.ReaperOSC" under the reaper resource files folder and i found the following line: MASTER_VOLUME n/1/mastervolume s/1/masterlevel I assume this means that when you touch the slider in your touchOSC surface it will be send to reaper and move the mastervolume slider (wich it does) And whenever you move mastervolume in reaper it will show in your touchOSC surface(wich it does) 1st question: Why did they change "mastervolume" into "masterlevel". It doesn't exist in the touchOSC surface template and yet it receives the incoming OSCmessage. 2nd question: I tried to do the same thing for the masterpan and i added the next line in LogicPad.ReaperOSC : MASTER_PAN n/1/masterpan s/1/masterpan The result is that i can change the masterpan in reaper but when i touch the pan-knob in reaper, it's not showing in my touchOSC surface. I think the big question is to know all the names reaper "knows" and uses when asked to send it's value to our touchOSC surface. Thanks in advance for your advice!!

Hey, super interesting question and unfortunately I'm not sure about the answer. I've run into this before, specifically with Reaper, and I wasn't able to figure out WHY some messages worked and others didn't. I believe there is another script or file somewhere connected to Reaper that is designating what OSC messages actually do, but I haven't been able to find this. Also, I haven't seen that level of editing (with a specific document that's uploaded to the DAW) with any other DAWs than Reaper. In my time (albeit probably too brief) looking through ccrma.stanford.edu/groups/osc/spec-1_0.html#osc-address-spaces-and-osc-addresses I haven't come up with an answer, but if you find one, definitely let me know. This question may also be one that the programmers like Felix can answer on the Discord server. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Hi! Is it possible to make a custom touchosc template for Logic? And if so, what do I type in the "osc message path"-fields in logic for a simple keycommand like "remove fades".....? Scratching my head here.
@TimCorpus
@TimCorpus Жыл бұрын
Ya you can make your own template. I started with the LogicPad as a jumping off point, but there should be some OSC messages available to use. You may have to look up what Logic OSC messages are available.

I'm not sure, I've never used it. However it looks like there is a midi learn function, so it should be doable with MIDI messages from touch OSC. support.apple.com/guide/mainstage/learn-a-controller-assignment-mstg338d4728/mac

I dont know why I am not getting any feedback, I created some basic cc message for touch osc, mainly fader , expression and xy pad, I cant see the thing you talked about in this video. Im using the touch osc to control any VST liek kontakt and all, Its just I'm not getting feedback from osc and I dont know why.

Hmmm, first thing to check, is any message getting through? Protokol is a good way to check that, you can also use the desktop editor. This way you can test if messages are at least getting from your tablet to your computer. Then if that works check the settings to the DAW, make sure the settings on the tablet links are correct and hopefully you can add your device in Logic. With apple you can also check the MIDI. I show that in my video on GarageBand. Hopefully that's a helpful start!

@@TimCorpus Oh its absolutely working, no problem with that. Its just It doesnt follow the automation I already recorded during playback, you mentioned its called feedback. Or does it have something to do with me using Touch OSC Bridge? The midi message is getting through, Im able to work, It just feels like im working with something like "non mortorized fader" as touch osc doesnt move together with the automation thats been happening in the midi during playback. Ill watch your garage band video, thanks a lot!
