When somebody told me that Nigerian Jollof was not the original, I was super shocked. When I went to Senegal, I didn't expect there to be so much variation, but it is amazing how much the dish has changed, as cultures and ethnic groups adopted their way of making it! The first time I tasted Thiep, if I hadn't been told that it was the original Jollof I wouldn't have guessed it. So many new and different flavors together in one dish. But I looovveee it! Especially the tamarind 🤤to the side. You put a LOT of work into this dish, tysm for sharing! If I can ever find all the ingredients to make some for myself and family, I definitely will be following this recipe.

Sorry my dear that is not jollof rice it’s called Ceebu Djeune meaning Rice with fish we have 2 other versions with meat and chicken. Also for all of those kind we have the red and white. Plus it’s not everyone who fries the fish. The most popular and original way is to Immerse the fish in the broth After the vegetables are cooked. For the majority opinion that’s the best way to cook it.

I now appreciate that this recipe should take me many slow hours of care and attention to truly make it magical. Sorry that is not a type of jollof rice. It’s called Ceebu djeune or guinar or yap What means in order rice with fish or chicken or meat. This dish is the original created by a Senegalese from Saint Louis named Penda Mbaye. Jollof Rice is derivative of this dish even the name Jollof belongs to us 🇸🇳 Djollof was a big empire of Senegal. That’s where the name comes from. When the Nigerian and the Ghanaian were introduced to this dish they called jollof rice to say the rice of Senegalese because we speak Wolof our language.
