Just bought one! With a Fethead / Cloud Lifter and a $4 Windscreen it sounds amazing for podcasts and KZbin Videos. the windscreen totally controls the sibilance and and I was able to dial the gain back from 1:30 (with Fethead) to 11:30 (with Fethead). This thing is awesome. Really clear but warm tone. Thanks for the review'

The Sennheiser E935 sounds so much clearer than the Shure SM58. Your voice is much more understandable with it than the SM58. Yet it retained smoothness in the sound despite the increase in clarity. Very nice. There is significant proximity effect if held closer than 3 inches which can muddy up your voice if you have a baritone voice or lower. Listeners generally preferred speakers when the microphone is held at least 3 inches away to maintain clarity.

@kry36346 жыл бұрын
Yeah at $30 you get into the territory of electret condensers and cheap USB mics. Here's why, imo, he has better audio quality: 1) for electret condensers he's using a pretty good USB soundcard that supplies enough voltage allowing him to not crank his gain up high and introduce noise, and also sounds nice and clean. If you plug the Mic directly into your PC it will not sound as good because most motherboards have shitty audio interfaces, and there's a lot of electrical interference going on. And if you use a USB soundcard, it's a bit of a gamble because most USB soundcard are shitty. 2) as for USB mics, Windows 10 is said to have issues with USB mics and he's using a Mac. A Mac handles USB mics much better than Windows does. Other than that, when you're using a proper audio interface or preamp or mixer there shouldn't be much of a difference or any at all. But that's where you get into the $150 and up territory

Thanks for posting this review. The e935 was my first "real" microphone after the Behringer XM1800s and the e935 is the one I started Better Podcasting with. It remains one of the coveted microphones to be kept right in front of me in my hutch on my podcasting desk. However, I've never actually reviewed it. So I'm very grateful that you've reviewed it. I've heard it described as a great female stage band lead singer's microphone and after your review I can see why. And your sibilance comment is now resonating with me of why I had such an issue and wanted a dbx 286s to de ess my live sound. So a couple of questions. I'd love to see a comparison between the e935 and the Shure Beta SM57a and the Shure Beta SM58a so if you could ever pull that off that would be great. Also, in this price range would you rather recommend a e935 or a Heil PR 781 for a podcaster's home studio? Of course there's a consideration for the occasional mobile recording which would give the e935 an advantage but let's just limit the comparison to a home studio. And don't worry - I'll wait for the answer until you are able to review and test the above requested microphones before you compare them as well! =)

Exactly as you say, the only issue with this mic is sibilance and unfortunately it’s a major problem, especially for mic kissers, that requires a sound engineer to constantly make adjustments during live gigs.
@twiggypine3 жыл бұрын
HI, great video! We play many gigs per week and the e935 is just not that road worthy. Out of 5 that we own, 3 are down as they were dropped in different fashion either from performances, or during setup/break down. Of course we try to be careful, but it does happen with so much going on. The SHURE beta-58, or standard 58, takes a much better beating in my view. Also, the e935 does have a little more low end drown than the SHURE BETA 58 or 58. This is more noticeable on live stages that tend to be raised/hollow. The mic stand act's like a conduit making those low frequencies drown out. The SHURE mics, while not as heavy, are like tanks. The BETA offers more high and low end frequencies than the standard 58, but it’s a tough call when you work often. If you choose the e935, be extra careful to not drop these as they are extremely delicate for such a heavy mic.
