I've never heard the 820's so I can't agree or disagree with the review. However, in the general sense, the comment section is proof of how little the average person thinks for themselves. Zeos didn't bash the headphones...his only complaint about the sound was the bass. Yet somehow, that was enough for people(who've never heard them)to confidently say that they dodged a bullet by not getting them. How likely is it that any of you would have come to the same conclusion about the bass? Just last week i saw a few people raving about how amazing their new 820 was. Are they wrong? Would they have still bought it if they saw this review?

Very true, the HD820's do alot of things very good and clean but when you've tried the HD800S and listen to the HD820, it's kind of they want to replicate the HD800S's but can't get there alot of people have this. It lost the sparkle on top and the mids feel a bit lifeless. Eventhough i say this if i'm looking for a new pair of closed cans i'd always demo these again to refresh my memory, these are by no means a bad headphone but the HD800S are way more enjoyable to listen to to get that refrence type of sound people should look for something different at this pricerange because of the loss of soundstage and lifeless mids and the low end always felt weird to me. Literally too much problems HD800S is still the best Sennheiser headphone.

Interesting comments on the 820s. A bit harsh I think. I find the bass is just about well...perfect. I'll also add that i'm a classical musician by trade that plays a bass instrument so my hearing is very closely honed to this register. I'm very very picky on this. I've owned two pairs of the HD800 (early and late serial) and the ie800 and I like the 820 the best out of all of them. The comfort is better than the 800 for me, the sound sig top end is smoothest out of the lot (for me). They are a reference headphone so they won't make the shitty recordings shine, so people of course shouldn't expect that. I agree about the wire but I've managed to straighten and it runs behind my setup so i don't see it/have to worry about it. Apart from that i'm really happy with them. Also they seem easy enough to drive from something like my Audioquest red, not that I would ever take these travelling but that is a bonus. FWIW I also got an amazing deal on them so didn't pay anywhere near retail. They look absolutely ridiculous on the head too so be ready for that prospective buyers!

I've compared these vs HD800S when they came out for an hour or 2. HD820s felt "stuffy". Less transparent, less soundstage. More bass, more compressed. A bit boomy (in comparison to HD800S, still good). Definitely not worth the money. IMO these are worse than HD800S, but that's because I don't have problems with their treble.

I own the 820s and I think I get a better seal on THEEZE due to my big head so I don't experience the bass distortion. Also not sure why you dont like the wire, I think you said the cable was great on the HD 800/s.
@RealHIFIHelp4 жыл бұрын
I you like these then try Focal Utopia, or Abyss, much more natural and real. I owned all hd 800, and they really all disapointed me with their lack of music and natural color. They just sound too good to be believable, like music that is autotunes. Even the old lcd3 totally crushes everything called sennheiser up to hd820. But I have to say that Sennheiser Orpheus, wow that must be like the best headphone in the world. But also costing 10x more.
@BerserkeR_0313 жыл бұрын
He's kinda weird on that. The wire is perfectly fine trust me. Who yanks on his wire when that little piece in the middle hangs up at the front of the desk. Mine never does, and i have all the Sennheiser cables; 6.3mm 4.4mm 4pin XLR. Hell, you could even loosely braid them to make them a little shorter if you wanted to and let the braided part lay on your legs and then let it come up weightless again into the headphones. But the HD800S is the better sounding Sennheiser headphone when you spend alot of hours listening to both of them. Too many problems with the HD820 it's trying to do something it's not, that money would be better spend on a can that excels in it's own category. And the guy above me comparing Focal, Abyss, and LCD's doesn't admit that the HD800S has it's own place. It's one of the best headphones ever created comparing it with such a broad range of cans that all do alot of things different tells me you're just looking for a different sound, the HD800S's should be able to still sit next to that other can because it's stupid to drag a can down that's not even from the same brand and serve 2 completely different purposes. Edit: so many people change their opinion on the 820 demo video, even Zeos talks way better about the HD820's there. Kind of funny when they don't A/B.

You can say that about literally anything. Are wristwatches also not worth high prices?

I want to see you try the HD 820 with the Creative X7. You need to review the Sennheiser GSP 600...

Why do more companies not make headphones that actually rests on the head and not the ears? Don't companies realize that when you pressure the ears, you are pushing a nerve? That's what I like about the 800 series. Other than that, I find the sound too lifeless and boring and cold and fake, it does not feel real. Sounds like synthetic farting upsampled.
