Sennheiser Momentum VS Sennheiser Urbanite Comparison Review

I went there yesterday and got the Urbanite XL. This one clearly stood out amongst these four to me. Urbanite XL gives a feel of total isolation from the environment and poured me directly into the music. It has a surround feel and bass is really good. To be honest I'm not an audiophile but I appreciate good sound. My wife also liked Urbanite XL. She is not choosey about headphones but she said she could clearly feel the difference. I went in Audio46 thinking I'd be choosing from Audio Technica ATH-M40x or ATH-M50x. But, overall build, feel and sound geared be into buying Sennheiser Urbanite XL.

I LOVE my Urbanite XL's which aren't too bassy compared to the Beats which I've owned too ( and I'm a 50 year old basshead)! But the older I've gotten the more I've learned to appreciate the high, lows & treble in music. The only issue that I have with my Urbanites is that they wear extremely big on my head (the space that's in between the band and my head). I looked at the On Ear version but didn't see much difference in the sizing when another reviewer put them both on. Hence I was looking at the Momentum's too and loved how you stated how they're more business-like compared to the urban look as I've transitioned from actual L.E. work to the business side of L.E. work and travel to & from work via the subway nowadays... So thanks for the review, I now have to see if there is a headphone superstore located here in Philly whereas though I can check out the sound and the fit. Thanks again! kdm

Watching all these reviews make me feel proud of my purchase of the Sennheiser Urbanite Black iOS from Amazon (Still waiting for it to arrive at home.). As a 14 year old, I'm glad to have researched more on headphones and coming across sennheiser. Otherwise I would have been tricked into buying Beats Solo 2. Thank you so much for this video. ❤

Thanks, Just make sure that you research dealers before you buy from them on amazon. If they are not authorized dealers you will not have a valid warranty, or you could be receiving counterfeit goods.

Today i checked Momentum and Urbanite XL. Both have similar sound characteristic, but IMHO Urbanite XL have wider scene because of more space inside cups. Still both pairs sound very good and IMHO they are two best portable headphones you can buy, just get which one you like more, I'll take Urbanite XL because of bigger cups size - better comfort for me.

Both look very good but from what I have seen. The urbanite's are comfortable to more people than the momentum because cups are bigger (over ear). And also they fold. But they don't have a case and they look a bit less good.

This review comparing these 4 Sennheisers REALLY helped me out and was just what I was after to help my buying choice. I sent back the smaller on-ear Momentums because of too much sound leakage out, and into the cans- I found them no good for the gym for example because of too much background noise spilling in. I just tried the on-ear Urbanites in a shop and was really really impressed with the sound. So that narrows my choice down to 3!

Great review. I am a man who wears a suit, works at a desk, but in his youth was completely into funk, soul, rap/hip-hop. Music is my passion, so overall sound quality is very important to me. No matter how excellent the speakers or headphones sound, if they don't have enough bass, they are out. Knowing that, I wonder if the momentum over-ear would be my best choice, over the Urbanite XL? Judging from reviews, I always thought the urbanite XL would be the one. But the fact that you said the smaller urbanite have more bass than the XL, and the momentum also has great bass, I am confused.

These are my first expensive headphones (over $70). I got the plum/purple one as a gift and I love them! It sounds so crisp and gets loud. The bass is great but not so much that it gets muddled and distorted. The sound is clear, all music genres sound great and movies sounds perfect. I put on my old skullcandy uproxx headphones to compare and I can really see how horrible and muddled they are compared to the urbanites. My jvc and apple earpods don't sound as good either, though the earpods are not on ear so can't really compare them. I had a gaming headset for around $65, it had a boom mic, a vibrating bass mode called quadboost which used batteries and it also had lights on the earcups. They sounded not great but nice. The build quality felt cheap like it could break any moment. I thought the boom mic was removable but it wasn't, I wanted headphones I could use for other things and didn't want to walk around with a big boom mic. The batteries always drained to fast. I had to fiddle with it each time I used it in my iPad because it wouldn't automatically work and sometimes didn't at all. I said enough is enough and took it back. Now I use the urbanite for gaming and everything sounds perfect. No gimmicks just great headphones. Explosions and ambient sounds on gta 5 sound great. I did have to buy a $30 universial cord from sennheiser so that I could use it on my ps4 because I had the apple version of the headphones and the ps4 does not work with apple style headphones/cords. The cord works just as perfect as the original cord. I keep both cords incase something happens to one or I want to use the apple cord on my iPad/iPhone.

I've owned the Momentum on-ear for almost a year now and its sounds great and so comfortable (i use it for hours and i have no issue with it). the only thing that i didn't like is its sound isolation and leakage. if i want to drown out outside noises, it will leak so much sound that people around me can hear what i'm listening to. I'm now thinking of getting the over ear version of it because i want more isolation. I'll try it and the urbanite xl but i like the classy look of the momentum over the edgy urbanite.

+Rajat Ukey Hi Rajat, the biggest difference is that the Momentum leans toward a more neutral sound (still good bass, but less compensation or bass enhancement) and the Urbanite is more of a Beats competitor (a bass-favoring tuned sound.) The clarity is going to better with the Momentum, however for Rock and Electronic you might find that the Urbanite's tuning favors those genres of music, so the trade-off could be something that ends up working for you.

Just got the Sennheiser Urbanite. At first I was a bit disappointed with the bass, but after just an hour or two I realized that the clarity of everything was MUCH better than my old bass-heavy cans. It really makes up for it. I tried the Sennheiser Momentum in Best Buy, and the lack of bass was just too much. Fortunately for me, they didn't have the Urbanite, or I may not have wished for them for Christmas. Just goes to show that you have to use them for a few days before you can really judge whether you like them or not!

Nah, we mean the Urbanite. Despite the lukewarm reception, the Urbanites do deliver bass of a punchier quality than compared to that of the M50x. The Momentum is good at stuff too, just not bass stuff.

I need advice! I just broke my 5th pair of AKG headsets, which have no durability at all because of cheap plastics: I love the way they sound, but it's unacceptable they break in just about 6/7 months when you treat them extremely gently as I do (I've used them mostly at home, and if I needed carrying I got a hard case for them). So, I was down to choosing between the Momentum and the Marshall Major. Then these new Urbanite came in: which would you pick now? Please notice that, besides extremely good sound quality, which I consider mandatory on a premium headset, I am looking for: very good durability (I'm really fed up with headphones breaking after a few months), fashionable looks, fair price and a good quality/price ratio. I found the Momentum for 130 euros on Amazon and I'm pretty interested. Would you buy them? Or you suggest the Urbanite? Or even the Marshall Major, which are sold for just 65€? Thanks.

The Momentums are definitely the classier of the two,and from your comparison the sound seems to echo that point.The Urbanites on the other hand seem more casual and less eye-catching (which,considering where I live,might last me longer) Though since i'm in the market for a new pair of headphones,i'd have to say that for the price the Urbanites seem like the better option but more out of personal preference (and budget!!),than anything else.\ While i'm here....are the wireless versions more or less as their wired counterparts?and you had to pick between the two wired models,which would you pick?

+Lone Vindicator The wireless models cost more than the wired versions, but the extra cost is justified in how seamlessly the bluetooth works. Audio quality remains comparable. I prefer the Momentum's sound, but think the Urbanite is more comfortable :)

the momentum over ear are not to be recommended. i bought them and tried them on a few times and you cant keep them on for longer than an hour since the sound is great but the feeling is horrible. your ears barely fit in the cups and after an hour your ears will be screaming out "UNCOMFORTABLE"

I listen to a mix of music/genres. I have lots of bass music, but momford and sons, avicci, some indie, rock. I have urbanites and bass is good but they look a little large on me. I tried the momentum and they are so light and comfortable/airy. However pricey aswell..not sure about sound

LOL I'm listening to this review with my Momentum on :D I adore them! I've gotten them in september (blue) and I can't stop using them! I use them with my phone (Apollo as my MP3 player) or at home, both while playing / studying / twitch.tv or anything else really :D They're really good!!! I also use them with my Creative audio setup to adjust the audio volume better :) They're really good!

The Urbanite large its a on ear because the ear cavity that hosts the ear is even smaller than the largest momentum.

Hate to be a know it all but that's simply no true! I just now got up and measured with a tape measure. The Momentum is 3.5 inches tall and 2.5 wide when you measure from outside of padding to the other side....the URBANITE XL is actually 3.5 Inches ALL the way around since it is a circle. Essentially the earpad of the Urabnite is much much bigger in surface area.

I just picked up a pair of The Sennheiser erbenites excel black for £64 on Amazon all the way down from £200 if you want them get them this minute now, I don't think you're going to find a bargain like that again LOL

Amazon is great for deals but UNLESS the distributor is AMAZON itself, you should always check to make sure that the dealer you are buying from is an Authorized dealer, and one from your country. If you do not purchase from an authorized dealer you may be receiving counterfeit headphones. They may also not be covered under warranty unless you purchase through an authorized dealer in your country(Sennheiser has international warranty most don't). They may be a good deal but, everything comes with a cost. All Authorized Sennheiser dealers have a minimum price that they are allowed to sell each product at. If you find a price that is extremely low compared to other retailers it means one of 3 things. Either the dealer is not authorized and at a minimum they cannot honor a warranty, the dealer is going below minimum price because the item is no longer being made, or the item is not genuine. We do not recommend ordering through amazon unless you do your research first.

urbanite sounds like it would be better, in my opinion. Just wishing headphones didn't cost so much. Is this because of them being form big name brands, or does it cost that much to make a profit from them. The urbanites are not for base heads. Come on man, the monuments have a nice even tone across the board that has an amazing vocal presents, base heads would find it not as fun to listen to as the v-moda line. The urbanites have a warmer sound to them but still hold off on the base like the Momentum's do, but has a more lower end presents. Sennheiser isn't looking to compete with vmoda or beats, it would fall on its face.

I feel like the urbanite offer JUST the right amount of extra bass without being too much. I DO like v-moda but they are a little too bass heavy for some people.
