Nice reaction and no score needed for these insanely talented musicians, always fun to watch them play. Thanks to homegnome for this request.

Thanks for checking this out. Of course you've had Senri and Miku here before as part of Jazz Avengers. Senri Kawaguchi Band is just a working name for any gig she does without her standing bands (Triangle and Jazz Avengers). The whole band are consummate pros, no question.

Senri loves metal. She's thrown little blast beats and metal fills in her solos since she was a kid. Kozo Suganuma, her teacher (RIP) was in metal bands as well as jazz and fusion etc. Very well rounded musician. All of these musicians in this video are ridiculous. I have no other words, just ridiculous, finishing each other's sentences... And so casually dropping advanced techniques and chops.

Wow, like you I wasn't quite expecting this. The drumming immediately drew me in and it only took one bar with the rest of the musicians for me to be sold. I also got a jazz/rock fusion vibe but with a bit more of a jazz vibe. Great tune. Nice to hear an organ sound again.

The tune was written by the guitarist and in the original the keyboard takes the lead. What makes this even more impressive for both Miku and the band is that she’s just a guest here.

Miku has done a Flight Of The Bumblebee jazz cover on one of her albums, so that's probably why the keyboard player was trying to give her part of that. My favourite of the jazz Avengers is still Senri, but Miku is certainly a close second. I love her sax playing and she is probably the main reason (next to Senri) why I kept trying to look into more Japanese jazz players the last couple of years. And I haven't been that much into jazz for the most part until I got into Senri's music about 5 or 6 years ago. Most of Senri's solo work (and her work with Kiyo*Sen) has been more in the jazz/fusion style with plenty of rock mixed in. This track is off of one of her solo albums.

Miku is amazing. A cross between Michael Brecker and Lenny Pickett? Nice analogy!

Senri Kawaguchi is a Japanese jazz and fusion drummer. In Japan she is sometimes known as tekazuhime (Princess of many Strokes). She has won many awards for her drumming. She started drumming at the age of five. In 2010, at the age of 13, she became one of the youngest drummers, and at that time, only the second Japanese drummer after Akira Jimbo to be added to the Drummerworld list of top 500 best drummers in the world.

There's three Japanese drummers that I follow; Senri is probably the best, followed by Yoyoka (youngest included in DrummerWorld at 11 she's now 14) and Kanade Sato (now with Koiai band). They all have an outsized talent for drums and are so fun to watch.

And yes, Miku and Senri are both members of The Jazz Avengers.

I absolutely picked this one knowing that Miku was your favourite in Jazz Avengers so you could see her more as a feature. Also my favourite in JA which is fairly astounding given Juna is also in there! 🤣
