Love how respectful yall were. Saenchai is still fighting at 43 years old. HE HAS HAD 378 PROFESSIONAL MUAY THAI BOUTS. Probably because some of them have huge egos, and being in the presence of someone so great is a constant reminder how they’re really nobodies, so if they can beat up a great then they can delude themselves that they really are great fighters. Also some of them probably just have no respect or control and shouldn’t be sparring with them.

For some of them, I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt and say that it's probably not just an ego thing but a mixture of wanting to leave an impression on your idol, anxiety of wanting to prove your skills to a legend, nervousness of sparring in front of a crowd and a celebrity, in front of cameras.

The thing is, for most people who have never stepped into a ring against a real veteran fighter, there is a different atmosphere that is present especially if the other guy is projecting a very strong aura that is creating very intense mental pressure on you. Your fight or flight response is subconsciously triggered and you either start running backwards or like most inexperienced guys who don't like to lose, being unfamiliar with the situation, you try to push hard against the pressure and you overdo things and go full blast just to get rid of the jitters and then the adrenaline takes over and you end up acting like a douchebag. Most times this is due to lack of proper coaching. Either your coach is too busy most of the time and just let you get away with doing things on your own which sometimes happens in a large gym or you're just one of those highly egotistic guys who think so highly of themselves that you ignore the coach and his advise and do your own thing.

I was on the mats for the video where the guy gets dropped with a teep. From the first exchange he brought just a little bit too much fight energy to the “playful” spar. Saenchai took the first few with his signature smile but the three peice combo that ended with a hard body shot changed the energy in the room. The next shot from the goat was the fastest left kick I’ve ever seen in my life . Followed by a sound that the camera doesn’t do justice. He put his partner on his ass with a few perfectly timed and placed teeps. Was something I knew would immediately end up in a “saenchai humbles”video.

There is a difference between your sparring partner and a visiting instructor. Their health and your health are more important than your ego. Also there is no one who is going to be able to turn up as much power as Saenchai. He's beaten the breaks off some very experienced fighters, multiple times. There is nothing you can throw at him that he can't give back a hundred times more but it's so disrespectful to the people hosting him, to the other students and to the instructor themselves.

This reminds me of a story. My younger brother and I have the same background in Hwarangdo/hapkido, we both branched out into other disciplines. He found a master of MuayThai(traditional&sport), the master did not advertise his school, word of mouth only, unmarked building. He was a Thai champion at one time, immigrated, his Americanized name was Hugh. I went to meet him at his school one time, he stood about 5.5" and must have been in his late 50's. Once you have trained in martial arts, and sparred with others, you gain a wisdom and insight beyond just judging size and muscle. I'm a big guy, but I looked at this masters legs, seen his quads forming little catmouth WWs peeking out just below his shorts, and his shin bones twice the size they should have been, like Louisville sluggers... Anyhow, my younger brother tells me he squarred off with his son, he had a size advantage, and he was a favored student, Hugh used him to test his son, both wanting to proove something to the master, blood was drawn I guess and it got pretty brutal, I'm not sure how Hugh felt about the outcome but they both went through the fire that day.

There has been ENDLESS online debate about the spar with Saenchai at 7:00. I agree, big dude wasn't going that hard, but he was busy. I think that somehow was too much? I think his size, plus the energy of the moment, led to him throwing a bit harder but it wasn't more than 40-50%. After the combo, Saenchai just decided to dominate him with knees and kicks, which wasn't "keeping it technical" at all. My question is, what was the point of that sparring session if not to work speed and combinations against one of the greatest of all time? What is the point of throwing slow singles? Not going to learn anything from that.

I gotta say that Mauy Thai really trains hard in conditioning its super impressive how much punishment these top fighters can endure and dish out. I've watched some of Saenchai's highlights and I can't believe how explosive he is. Very fast and powerful, he is very good at capitalizing on the openings he makes with feigning kicks and knee strikes to quickly transition into fast elbows and strikes. He is also extremely dynamic and seems to easily keep his opponents on the defensive. Absolutely astounding that he has gone so long undefeated.

Honestly something similar happened to me, a few days ago i when I first sparred. I was relatively new and had done Taekwando for a month an a half, I’m still a white belt. But on my first sparring session a few times where I was getting pressured in a spar there were moments where I would accidentally throw a strike harder than I should. Which I immediately apologized for, and it was chill overall. Everybody knew it was by accident, and it was chill especially since it was body shots only and we were wearing full gear. But of course there’s that one kid at my gym who spars hard, and I sparred him. Overall just don’t be that guy, sparing him was so annoying because he would throw kicks at 100% but pause the spar and step out of bounds every time i would start to try and combo him. And he just at one point bum rushed me and flying side kicked me off the mat and the instructor had to kick him out sparring for the day. Honestly the fact that the kids a blue belt and doing that in sparring against a white belt was uncalled for
