For wounds on a dogs foot or leg it is best to have some painters tape. When my 14 year old dog was young she had a deep slice in her foot. The wrapping the vet put on her was impossible to deal with. It was also early winter here in NE Ohio. I found it best to medicate, cover with gauze, add some painters tape, cover with a plastic qt size bag, then wrap it up with painters tape. When she came in from the wet, snowy, muddy, outdoors, it was easy to remove the tape and plastic. I had to change the dressing several times a day, and the painters tape was way easier to deal with.

I have been told many times by family and friends that are military veterans that one of the thing's they got excited about in the care packages we sent them were wet wipes. They said it could be days or weeks before they could take a shower due to active combat. I have found them very useful due to hurricane damage and flooding. Great advice guys!

Don’t forget to put super glue in your medical bags. It’s great to close up minor wounds AFTER they’ve been properly cleaned. Also, if you can get your hands on some Yarrow, it’s a plant the will stop bleeding almost instantly. I’ve even read that ancient Greeks used to take this plant into battle to use on wounds. I have used this plant many time both on humans and animals and it is amazing. As a side note, I had to do minor surgery on an impacted crop on a chicken and used superglue to close her back up. Today she is healthy, happy, a great layer and is the chubbiest of the bunch!

I took one this hanging shoebags and tied it around the seat with the shoe slots in bag. I tuck in small items I need like a dog leash, trash bags, paper towels, an extra quart of oil, an old credit card wrapped with duct tape, pieces of aluminum foil I saved (for signaling if you're stranded), fire materials (lighter, pill bottle with dryer lint), gloves, face masks, stuff to write with, and now, safety goggles. 😊

Having a Kanban FIFO (First In First Out) way of storing your preps is important. Gather several months of your regular grocery receipts will help you more accurately plan your preps. As far as fire starting, I use a small orange colored Molly bag similar to a first aid kit to store many different ways to start a fire (lighters, matches, flint strikers, magnifying glass, & lighter fluid) along with various types of tinder, and a few candles. As far as cammo, always match your environment. When we used to play airsoft we use to spray our own cammo to match the season and terrain. As for rodents use cornbread mix with lots of baking soda mixed in it, learned that from a farmer. If you’ve ever eaten an MRE, you will find quickly how easy they can cause constipation. Sure far better than starving to death but best to have plenty of water with you. Totally agree about having enough propane. I keep firearm ammo for self defense while I have pellets and an air rifle and air pistol for small game SHTF hunting, hard to beat the prices on pellets compared to firearm ammo. If can afford a PCB hunting air rifle, you can shoot up to .50 caliber plus you can have features in places like California such as full auto you can’t have in a firearm. Having GMRS radios are great but don’t be fooled by their claims of 30+ miles, you’re lucky to get 2 miles under regular conditions. Privacy channels aren’t private, they just prevent you from hearing other people’s radios. There is a 25 Watt handheld GMRS radio but you are supposed pay the GMRS license fee to legally use it, that FCC license lasts for 10 years, but anyone can use these radios to help save a life or other emergencies without a license. Liquor is critical for killing off a sore throat, the higher the proof the better. Corn based is easier to swallow than grain based. There is a recent discovery how to remove tannins from acorns within 3 hours, but that’s another food source that’s usually wasted.

For books, a cheaper option is to borrow from the library. It's also a great way to find the books you actually want to keep. I always get at least 1 book in each category (whether I am going to have time to read them or not so if a disaster happens, I have them) home repair, cookbook, clothes making, homesteading, survival and leisure

For rodents, I have metal steel 5' school lockers (similar to a gun locker but light guage steel sheet) this seems to keep out the rodents and they are pretty cheap to buy used. They also lockson into the ground well and can fill the bases with cement making them movable to only the determined thief.

I get batteries from harbor freight. They are pretty cheap and project farm did a comparison video and they did well for the cost to life ratio. They have held up well for me throughout the years. Not as long as some of the fancy energizers and stuff but they last long enough. I like the aaa, aa and 3032's. I have 5 Romeo 5's and the 3032 batteries last a long time in them. I just replace them once a year but they last even longer.

One thing I use, living off grid and heating and cooking with wood, I have to keep my fire going in the winter so to quickly start a fire I take a cotton ball and drag it through Vaseline. I do this with about 2-3 cotton balls and then place them in and around my kindling. Once lit they, they will burn for several minutes and this will start a fire easily. A bag of cotton balls and a jar of Vaseline is cheap and never goes bad. I also has this bright green fungus that grows on my juniper trees, it is awesome to start a fire, catches immediately. Relying on paper to start a fire or buying pre-made fire starters, while they work great, they may not be available.

Just a tip no one thinks about along with your garbage bags please try to keep a innertube swimming flotation device they are flat until inflated you can use them on water on grass on snow they’re good to help with loading your backpack on or maybe putting an animal on or a small child on that would make it easier they come in very handy for many many things with or without rope but I like to keep them even the long ones the lounge chairs for the lake they’re awesome. also the inflatable beach balls they come in different sizes they have many many uses you can blow them up for a flotation device a fission float to Mark where you’re fission if you get bright colors you can use them for signal a you can cut a hole in them and use them for water or to carry things in turn them into baskets just cut out the handles. please let me know if any of this is useful to you or others thank you

If the can food has acids in it like say tomatoes... the acid will eat thru the can lining and leak and spoil. will not last more than a couple of years.

You're definitely not the only one. I have about 6 months worth of freeze dried raw food for my dog. When you feed your pet raw, you can't just suddenly switch to kibble or canned food. They will get really sick and have stomach problems. So freeze dried raw from Stella and chewy's. Since then I found out they are not the very best raw food brand, and I will be changing , when I can't afford it.

Just as a note, I have my late fathers Duracell battery collection that I am still using. (Yes he kept a lot of batteries!). He died in 1980 and those batteries (being kept in a proper battery storage case) are still fully charged and I still pull them out and use them in devices.

Good information. If you burn pallet wood make sure it was heat treated and not chemically treated and know what came on it. I've got a family member that cooked over it because he had no other options and now has severe permanent iintestinal issues. Also don't burn pressure treated wood.

She is gone now but she left a butt load and a half of shampoo, conditioner, etc. I've got a stock of the large boxes of strike anywhere matches in air tight containers along with many many of the small boxes of strike anywhere matches. Next time you are pouring candles take a couple of the center cardboard tubes from toilet paper rolls and flatten and soak in the wax. Flat, qwik firestarter. I like cotton balls and vaseline but these are easier to transport and work very well.

Hygiene and washing is imperative. If you stop washing, you stop scrubbing those dead skin cells off. (Yes you shed some and they fall of your body freely constantly) but they start to stack and cling drying out the layers of skin beneath. After extended periods you will start to itch terribly. You also loose a lot of the natural hydration your skin get from washing daily which further dries out the skin, etc. it just compounds.

I totally agree about having a full compliment of manual tools as back-ups to your power tools but don't overlook the battery powered ones. These days there are so many ways to charge their batteries if your power is out that I am making sure that I have the full spectrum of battery powered tools and spare batteries set back. The time and energy savings that these tools provide are invaluble and more so in an emergency event. With all that being said I do have an antique two man saw of my great grandfather's that I should look into getting fixed up and sharpened, then protect the blade for longterm storage.

@@BloodAndBourbon people are always saying that garage sales are a great place to find good deals but my own experience has been less positive. You almost need to be a profesional shopper to find the good stuff. I don't seem to have the time or the patience to be successful at it. I do better at thrift stores. There are quite a few within my daily travel area and I try to hit them each every few weeks. I don't always buy anything but I find enough to keep me going and I can do that at my own convenience.

I grew up in a very urban area of NY and I moved upstate a few years back and upstate where you get a lot more of the DIY folks obviously tends to have better / cooler stuff. But thrift shops are great even Craig’s list / eBay in your area. I find things at the most random of places like art and craft stores I take my kids and things like that. As I’m sure you know once you develop an eye for what you want / need , you see it everywhere !

On the bulk paracord, we keep old broomsticks and cut them to use as a roller for the bulk paracord. The broom or plunger hands fix into the cardboard cones the bulk cord comes with.

WHEN SARAH MAC IS READING THE QUESTIONS HER VOICE IS TO LOW TO ADEQUATELY HEAR. She needs a microphone. You mentioned caned food lasting forever. That is NOT correct. Tomato based items will eat thru the can because of the acid in the tomatoes. I had a can of pears that was two past BBD and it expanded and started leaking. I store cans but inspect them all every month on the fifteenth of the month. Just to be sure I don't have one that goes bad. Because I am able, anything over a year past the BBD, I go ahead, open and freeze dry it. Anything dry that comes in a plastic jar of any type, I go ahead and remove it and vacuum seal it in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. Items in plastic jars are good for about a year sometimes a little longer.

i keep a window breaker and belt cutter on each visor and on both driver and passenger head rest. Having the safety glasses and the heavy-duty trash liner could help you get out of the window that is now broken and protect you from the glass.

One place had pallets, some of the boards were split, free for the taking. My dad needed tomato poles, which were rather pricey and flimsy looking at the store. We took some pallets, disassembled them, sawed the boards in half lengthwise, and pointed the ends to go in the ground. He used these for a number of years.
