I love listening to y’all talk! I’m an ex-Mormon like Jonathan. I served a mission about 2 years ago and sent home early essentially for thought crime. Keep doing what y’all are doing. These cults need to be exposed!

Brilliant descriptions of unravalling the mind traps - I like the desciption of mind virus, and fighting off the effects of the virus by developing reason based antibodies - once defeted these viruses (religions) tend not to reinfect as the intibodies are ready to defend.

The automatic trust given to members of the clergy by their congregations as noticed by the Australian Royal Commission is called *clericalism* .

I was thinking about the “using theology against the victim”, “when you get baptized you get forgiven for all of this”. Mostly I think that this is just an excuse a predator might use to silence their victims. But considering all the other things people in various groups believes, and considering how far into delusion one might go when deep in a particularly strict religion or control group. Do some of these people actually believe their own rationalisations? Looking back to the Catholic Church scandals. I remember speculating that you have a system were if a priest truly believe then they can in essence abuse a child, go into confession, talk about what they have done, maybe even display genuine signs of regret and self-loathing, be told to do penance, recommit themselves to god, and all is forgiven. Meaning there is no legal consequences to their actions, no real punishment for what they have done, and ultimately their religious institution is telling them that they've been cleared of sin. So a priest might go through that and feel like they've been “weak”, but that they've “done the right thing” and now they're alright with god and the church. At that point the institution is basically both a legal and psychological support system for predators.

Victims tend to feel that they need to protect their abusers. Very sad. A sense of shame? I don't know.

Italian Vaper The victims are children that have most often been groomed by the adult first. They mess with the child's brain before their body. They also often use threats of violence against someone the child loves if they tell what is happening to them. It is as much about mental abuse as it is physical abuse. Also a child may be so young when the abuse starts that to them it is normal. It is the only life they have known. It is not until they are older that they realize it is not.
