It's another installment of the the Three Apostates! This week, I'm joined by former Jehovah's Witness Lloyd Evans and former Mormon Jonathan Streeter to compare and contrast our past religion's ideas about what happens after you die. We had a great time doing this podcast and we hope you have a great time watching.

This was awesome - love it when you 3 get together. From the outside the religions look like they would not have anything in common - and then you pointed out the similarities. So interesting and combined with your sense of humor this was just a lot of fun.

Very nice! I was never wary of Mormons or Jehovah”s Witnesses, until I learned of Scientology. I’ve gladly invited them all into my home. I’ve even become close friends with some. I’m glad to accept all spiritual beliefs. I now look at the welfare of their parishioners. Something must be done! Not all religions are beneficial to society, despite popular opinion.

One time there was a debate between an LDS Church member and an Evangelical Christian. The LDS member said to the audience that the Evangelical loved Jesus more than his wife. The evangelical's wife replied with the comment, "that is what I love about him."

There are similar issues with Catholic purgatory. I pulled myself out of any organized religion because they are all man made. I still am a believer but I believe my own way and not just what man taught me all my life.

Hi Chris, firstly thank you for this video, I've really enjoyed it. I have no idea if you will ever read this comment, but I have a question: from 47:49 onwards, you discuss the issue of Thetans and the "afterlife." You mention that failed abortions are seen as a no-no because of the fact that the Thetan is going to have memories of that failed abortion. Why then, does this view not apply in Scientology to a Thetan that has attached itself to an embyro that is then actually aborted; given that Thetans don't die?

@kristalcampbell3650

Pretty much, my understanding of the difference is that is that with purgatory once you've done your time you're fine to go. With spirit prison you have to have had a baptism done on your behalf on earth and accept the teachings from the missionaries.

I took a comparative religion class at a Harvard divinity school back in the day where we held class in the local parish on Beacon Hill! They had been smart and in the early 80’s there Church was falling apart. Instead of fixing it they torn it down. Put up an apt complex. The money from it keeps up the missionary work and social programs that they sponsor. Plus they kept the ground floor for worship and office space. I loved it! It kept their great works going and showed the world that ministry is not just a great looking building!! (Haha Chris you can relate to this)

I love how much you all laugh when you get to the super ridiculous stuff. Super helpful to have succinct descriptions for all three. I’d love a “basics” series comparing the foundational tenets of each religion. Youll have to come up with another title since the basics is already taken! So. Many. Basics. Silly religion.

The sad thing about afterlives and deities is that we allow these postulates an automatic level of initial credibility, just on the basis of tradition. In other words, the very fact that we even take these ideas seriously is nothing more than an appeal to tradition. The consideration is weighted before we start. Sad that we tend to buy into that.

As an ex -‘brand’Muslim (I would still identify as a Deist) I can also identify soooo many similarities with the cult of ‘salifist’ Islam. The ‘certainty’ trap, the ideological arrogance and the destructive societal attitudes. All with the carrot of ‘Paradise’, which if you have a shitty life, can be quite alluring. Hope/faith two sides of the same coin.

Thank you guys, love your work. I have not ever been made aware of what a Humanist is, maybe I am one, if that is the case colour me surprised!!! I am Me, what you see is what you get & that is all so just deal with it, has always been my motto I have always believed that we were placed on this Earth as individuals just to be the best we could be and to try and improve the Earth that is here for us now so that it will be better for future generations (we aren't in the dark ages anymore so it may just be working lol). And to lead by example, so you know the drill, as you travel through this life leave only footprints, take only photos, only do good deeds and think only good thoughts + understand that you cannot be 100% right all the time, and that people will try to piss you off. You have made me understand that I should be, and I am, happy being my Religion of 1 (Humanist ?).

On the idea that you could be there to serve the higher people in the celestial kingdom that would have been my grandfather if he passed before the rules about black men getting priesthood endowments he was told the only way he could get into the celestial kingdom was as a servant. For me I would have been out of the door at that point but he stayed until he died. I can't say I understand why. I never had the nerve to ask.

I think what Lloyd said regarding His mum being changed by Jehovah God , really is sick and twisted. I never knew this existed in the teaching of Jehovah’s witnesses. I’m so glad I’ve seen this video. I never will look at this group again in the same way. Perverted teaching is not good to say about this. There must be a more stronger word to use. Sick religion 🤢

You'll probably laugh at my questions, but here goes: Can more than one thetan (not body thetans) occupy a body at the same time? Have Scientologists ever considered that possibility as a cause for bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, multiple personality disorders, homosexuality, etc? And if Scientology is the expert on thetans, why should they run like hell from people with such mental illnesses (I'm not saying homosexuality is a mental illness!) instead of trying to exorcise the extra thetans? Thank goodness they don't try to treat mental illness, but just wondering!
@maquinadeguera

Lyn Landham I’m not a ex Scientologist but form what I understand in OT3 you learn that there are multiple thetans in a body and that causes a lot of problems so then afterwards you self audit to remove them. Also there were more thetans then bodies 75 million years ago so multiple thetans occupied one body:
