These days you can get a sensor for just about anything and we often get asked what sensors are needed for a basic EFI setup. In this episode Scott discusses all the main sensor types, explains what they do and which ones an aftermarket ECU needs to run your engine successfully. Enjoy!

Interesting now I worked out how you get away with MAFless tuning without just flooding the motor & throwing everything out wack or blowing things up 👍✌

I have huge respect for Haltech giving back info like this to the community. Instead of just using their EFI tuning knowledge to make their ECU's more "proprietary" so to speak. It's why I'll buy a Haltech instead of something else.

Its important for new or first time users to think about other sensors that might not be needed to run the engine but make the driving/tuning experience better. One case is when i first started i was so focus on the engine as an individual i didnt think about hey im installing this on my daily driver with a small motor so maybe i wanna add a power steering pressure switch so when i go to full lock when my clutch is engaged and im idling the car dosent die but just idles up for the extra load. Yeah try figuring that out with a data log when its your very first install and tune...

All of them!!! Two for each cylinder. I'd have a fighter jet looking interior. lol. I'd be checking temps and pressures everywhere if I could, but I've only got so much space. EGT pyrometers are super useful for tuning. Knock sensors should be on everything. Most all of them are luxuries, not necessities. Very nice luxuries though.

i was allways convinced that the lambda sensor was quite important. scott lists it as optional i guess you dont need it to get the engine running but its nice to know what your burn is doing

Knock sensors, crank angle sensor, exhaust has temperature sensor (especially critical for preventing turbodiesels from overheating and self destructing), etc.

We bought a car with a Platinum Sport 1000 unit, it has a vacuum nipple on it that is attached to the intake manifold. Does this mean the Haltech unit is using an internal map sensor? There is currently not one installed on the engine, so Im assuming thats what it is.

@@haltech Not exactly what i was getting at. Converting a carby car to efi. Not with a high end MCU but the lowest cost/basic you offer. I have a 1972 Japanese car with twin Hitachi's (SU 'copy') and would love to change it to efi.

Hi there I currently have a platinum pro ecu on my ep3 civic type r just wanted your feedback on sensors should I get to help protect and to optimize my k20a2 it just has bolt on but I plan to use it for track use .
@haltech
@haltech 5 жыл бұрын
We would recommend the following for a track use K20 engine: 1.) Rev limit 2.) Engine temp / coolant temp 3.) Oil temp and Oil Pressure 4.) AFR / lean out 5.) Fuel pressure 6.) EGTs All of which are supported by your Platinum Pro Plugin:)

I've got a supercharged dc5. AIT sensor is cruuently mounted in the manifold, but at idle it gets affected by heat soak at idle. Is it possible to run a secondary ait sensor prior to the manifold for a secondary reference input for idle. Am using a platinum pro plug in.. Thanks.

Please explain map vs maf and is a maf also an air temp sensor?
@noxious89123
@noxious89123 5 жыл бұрын
A MAF or a MAP sensor can (depending on the sensor itself) include an air temp sensor. My car is fitted with a bosch MAP sensor on the intercooler outlet, which is also my air temp sensor. A Mass Air Flow sensor measures the mass of air flowing through it. A Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor measures air pressure. They work differently but are there to do the same basic job; tell the ECU how much air is being consumed, so that it can adjust the amount of fuel injected accordingly. A MAP sensor is probably more useful, as it allows you to do other things with that data, like manage boost pressure via a wastegate solenoid.

Wish there was a cheaper way of doing it. Quality comes at a price ofcourse, I get that. Just a basic system that does the EFI and ignition and nothing else, but tuneable or self learning. Wouldnt even care about wifi or bluetooth, multiple maps, launchcontrol or anything like that.
