It seems there are two actions of the church that are oppose to each other. For one side: the defense of the church with the tongue. I associates them with the apologetics or the ones who wants to convince others by words that Jesus Christ is the Truth and the only way. The other side defend the church too but not with arguments but with their humble actions and as Fr. Abernethy says with silence. I associates this ones with the monks or hermits. I heard from a Trappist monk speech during a visit at the Abbey of Gethsemany in Kentucky that those who wants to defend the Church are like the Pharisees who see themselves as bodyguards of Gods. The Trappist was saying that God does not need of bodyguards. He insisted that God does not need any defense. He also said that when Jesus proclaimed the coming of the Kingdom of God he was not defending the Truth with argumentations but with simple narrations that any peasant can compare with their own life.
