This a wonderful presentation. I wish that this information could be given throughout the Church so that men can heal from the family Crisis. I do however believe that if men could step up and follow what Father Ripperger suggests women would not work and essentially take her place in the home to take care of the home and raise the children while the father is providing and protecting for the family. However, it is been my experience that SEVERE PHYSICAL ABUSE to myself (broken bones and concussion) and sexual abuse of the children is NEVER ACCEPTABLE in the home. It is destructive of the family structure. The wife will step out from under the authority of the husband, go to school and work, separate/ divorce the husband to protect herself and her children. There has to be a clear message that men are indeed stronger physically than the wife which is for protecting and providing and not to physically injure the wife or the children. Also it is the father's job to step up and help the mother raise the children and especially to teach the children to RESPECT the reasonable expectations of the mother. When the children mouths off to the mother when the father is present the father has a responsibility to step in and protect and support the mother. Simple direction like " do not speak to your mother like that." can go along way to solidify the bond between the husband and wife as they support each other. I question why no one is talking about this because this is essential to the peace and tranquility of the home. I pray that the Clergy will step up and begin to provide teaching to the men of the church and teach what a man's role in the family truly is and encourage the men to be responsible and step into this essential role. As the husband and father takes on this role the wife will then trust that she can then be in the home and take on her responsibility for the home and the children. The ONLY reason the women stepped out of the home to go to work was because she was VULNERABLE financially if the husband and father thinks he has free reign to abuse the wife and children. I pray the that God have mercy on on families and provide support for their healing.

My family is Protestant. A lot of this great advice and information wasn’t really implemented in my family to this degree. I literally had to learn HOW to be a man through the military and biblical scripture. It’s not that my father wasn’t a good provider or that he didn’t try to spiritually edify his children. I just think he may have allowed other things to distract him and never caught wind of it. Anyway, I love reading the Bible and I’ll be going through RCIA this September. Love listening to these and I learn so much from them too.

But outside of that situation, this is where God comes before anyone / anything (pets, job children, spouse, parents, etc.) First Commandment... but sounds like one would need to consult w Trad priest if husband becomes contemptuous.

Sorry to hear that. A priest would probably have a better answer, but I'd say the understanding that the Bible and God are the highest authorities in both of your lives is essential. If a wife accepts the Bible as truth, then she must also accept that Husband has authority over her, as the Bible states, and that you are commanded to love her by God, but she is commanded to respect you. So I'd say: (1) of course, pray for your wife and for yourself, everyday, that she will know her role and that you will not sin in your response (even though you may be right); (2) also, practice the faith - be patient - as it will take time for her to learn to submit; and (3) try to take the matter up with her - tell her that you love her, and it's God's will that you have this authority - if she listens to a priest or another good catholic influence her life, maybe they can tell her. Of course, also attend mass, go to confession, take the eucharist and bring your wife and children with you.

Can anyone help me out? Listened to an amazing talk from Fr. Ripperger but I can't find it again. It talks about how adult children still have to listen to the counsel of their parents. He also talks about fathers and mother blessing their children, but specifically it talks about how adult daughters are still under the authority and protection of their father until marriage. I see no evidence in all of Scripture which supports this statement about this “Foundation” of man’s authority. On the contrary, John Paul II’s “Love & Responsibility” and the Theology of the Body addresses (which I have read in entirety myself, not heard someone talk about them) paint a different picture, which are in line with 2,000 years of consistent Church teaching.

One has only to look at the way Jesus structured the Church, or how Jesus came as a man and not a gender neutral human, or how women are by nature more of the emotional, empathetic, and caring of the two genders. You do not need to find a teaching within the Church to see that what Fr says is true in this regard. Though I believe some teachings can be found with St Thomas Aquinas, or some of the Fathers. And I'd be careful with JPII's ToB, at least when taking it by itself. Not saying it is bad, just that it doesn't tell the whole story of the rolls of men and women, fatherhood and motherhood, leader and follower, protector and nurturer. It is no secret that JPII wasn't the fiercest protector of tradition.

So when Jesus commanded his disciples to spread His word to all nations, Jews and Gentiles, woman or man, servant or free, wouldn't that mean He wanted a UNIVERSAL CHURCH?? Please do some better homework before you start spewing condemnations. Yes, the Bible says "blessed are you among women " also, " my soul magnifies the Lord " and "Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." So listen to the Bible and CALL HER BLESSED. She IS blessed among all women. We are told to honor our mother and father. Why wouldn't we put at highest honor the MOTHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. Our God who became WHOLLY MAN and remained wholly God. Human and divine. God chose her and I will continue to call her blessed and continue to ASK HER TO PRAY FOR ME TO HER SON, OUR LORD. How you can see asking for someone to pray for you as worshipping is beyond me. That would mean you don't ever ask your fellow Christians to pray for you? It's just you and Jesus? Yeah, nope. If you are baptized in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit you are a part of the body of christ, the UNIVERSAL body, in Greek the CATHOLIC BODY. You need to remember your translations and not just how we use our modern English words.

You are wrong Father, I know so so many men husbands who want family life w children and a wife who stays home to care for them. Women don't want it. Women have been brainwashed to not have children, career is more important. Women set the atmosphere in the home and marriage

It doesn't matter if they want it. What matters is that it's disordered for a woman to usurp the role of a male, and that she's going to be judged by God based on her disdain for His law.

Are we women that stupid and wayward that we need our husbands to admonish us?! Indeed! Father. I believe it is an equal sharing of responsibilities and compatibility and respect. Do men find women so wayward? Really. Ok, we give the possibilities of infidelity, theft, anger, gambling, laziness as the main possible wrongs, really,?? Ok, a husband can give advice snd point out a mistake, how often does a wife need admonishment like a child? Is there any wonder that there are so many divorces? Maybe not for the reasons I pointed out, but, man! Admonish a wife. Did these husbands marry children? Sounds like most men did!!!!

The answer is yes, they are, and yes, they do. The fact that a woman is to submit to her husband doesn't come from Fr. Ripperger. It comes from God. When you try to subvert that, you're not just bucking tradition, you're rebelling against God.
