From the get go i was lost, unsure of what district i was even it. Until i spotted the tower. Finally we explore the country's tallest tower and bro pose with some of the friendly staff. Later, an ajumma saved my life and recommended some banging black bean noodles.

I used to work in the southern tip of that area in Wirye New Town. It’s all recent high rise developments, but if you go over one road into what’s technically Gyeonggi-do then you’re in rural mountainside villages. There’s also the Tancheon Stream that runs alongside Songpa up to the Han River. Great for bike rides or running. I guess the best thing about Songpa-gu (other than Lotte Tower, Lotte World, and Seokchon Lake) is that it’s adjacent to the countryside. 😅

Another interesting video! Maybe one day you can explore KDrama locations. "Reply 1988" ends with their neighbourhood being abandoned in order to be knocked down eventually. In the last episode we see some of the characters years later living in high-rise apartments!

i think songpa, of all areas in seoul, is the best example of a place that’s amazing to live if you’re a korean (job, family, property, etc.) but totally boring as a visitor. it’s an amazing place to live if you’re an ambitious korean; but nothing there really for a visitor. the lake is really beautiful in the spring/autumn though!

Your “Where are gu?” concept is genius. You are creating excellent content by showing the diversity of each “gu”, and providing a historical context. It is unfortunate to see the historical centers being dismantled in favor of high rises. I understand the need to create living space for an ever growing population as opposed to urban sprawl that encroaches on the beautiful countryside surrounding Seoul. However, I would like to see architecture with a unique Korean vibe instead of the usual stainless steel with glass monoliths that can be found in any large city. Dan, I’ve been following you for some time. The last time I posted a comment was when your mate had to be hospitalized for dehydration…I just want you to know that I appreciate seeing the World through eyes that appreciate it. Lived in Songpa for a year and a half for girlfriend's work. Definitely agree. Not the worst place, but boring and soulless as hell compared to most of the other districts.

actually you could get passports as early as 1969 to travel to the US and UK only, as my parents did. It was generally prohibitive to most Koreans because it would literally cost and arm and leg.
